2023 has been a major mishap on Marvel’s part, as not only do most of their Phase 5 entries tanked among fans and critics, apart from some notable exceptions, but the entire Kang storyline is now in jeopardy. And with 2024 being a pretty vacant year for the Cinematic giant, with their lone big project being Deadpool 3, it seems Marvel has to bring in their big guns to get the mega-franchise back on track.
And per rumors, work on an X-Men project has begun, however, in order to separate themselves from the Fox universe, the MCU is allegedly keen on dropping Magneto in favor of Mister Sinister.
MCU Allegedly Not Inclined to Use Magneto to Separate Themselves From Fox
Per Insider Daniel Richtman, the MCU reboot of one of Marvel’s biggest assets will focus more on the female characters, and the MCU is allegedly not keen on involving Magneto in any capacity. Richtman claimed the reason behind their alleged plans is to make their X-Men movie distinguishable from the ones that have come before and are inclining towards Mister Sinister.
This has unsurprisingly led fans to express their distaste for the alleged plan, as Magneto is not only one of the best-written villains in the X-Men universe but is arguably Marvel’s best to date.

I have no problem with making female characters main stage but only 3 comic X-men female deserve that privilege Jean Grey, Storm, and Rogue. Also Magneto MUST be included due to popularity and being the main original antagonist. It would be like having Batman and never using… pic.twitter.com/01DUrL83KJ

Shifting away from wolverine as a protagonist is a good idea, need to differentiate from the last 20 years. Following the female leads is also a good idea, people like jean and rogue are massively underused in the films. No magneto tho? Cannot overstate how bad a choice that is.

Ayo, WHAT? No Magneto?!?! I'm all for Sinister, but no Erik at all? I'unno about all that. I need more news to form a proper opinion on this one.

Apart from being the ultimate foe for the heroes to go up against, Magneto’s story also serves as an allegory to America’s Civil Rights movement. Created by Stan Lee during the height of the Civil Rights movement, throughout their existence, Magneto and Charles Xavier have stood for oppressed minorities. So, not having Magneto in MCU’s interpretation of X-Men reasonably caused fans to outcry, especially considering Professor X is already confirmed in the MCU multiverse.

Fans Can Expect an Official Announcement Regarding X-Men Soon
Kevin Feige, who hasn’t backed down from expressing his adoration for the X-Men on several occasions, gave a positive update on the state of the mutants in the MCU. With the iconic characters returning to animation in 2024, Feige stated that fans won’t have to wait much longer for the mutants to eventually merge with the cinematic giant. He said (via EW),
“The X-Men are as solid and as rich and as a great a concept in characters as exist. There’s the return of the animated series next year, which we’re very excited about. And then in live-action, people will see,” he continued. “Perhaps soon.”
Keeping in mind that nothing concrete has been announced about the MCU’s X-Men movie, one shouldn’t take the aforementioned rumor with absolute certainty and wait for the official announcement.
