Having shown his expertise in the studying and speaking of alien languages as Dr. Norm Spellman in Avatar and its sequel Avatar: The Way of Water, Joel David Moore has now tried his hands at exploring human psychology in Some Other Woman from his director’s chair.
The indie psychological thriller also paves the way for a Twilight x Harry Potter crossover by featuring Ashley Greene and Tom Felton in starring roles. The Apparition pair are joining hands after more than a decade.
Avatar Actor Reunites Twilight and Harry Potter Stars in New Psychological Thriller
Harry Potter’s Draco Malfoy and Twilight’s Alice Cullen shared the screen in 2012 in horror mystery The Apparition.
In the Todd Lincoln-directed movie on supernatural forces, Tom Felton portrays Patrick, a college student who attempts to recreate the parapsychological Charles Experiment with his friends. Their experiment inadvertently turns the life of Ashley Greene‘s Kelly upside down after she discovers that she and her boyfriend are being haunted by an unknown presence.
While The Apparition focuses on psychic phenomena, Some Other Woman sheds light on the psyche of Eve Carver (Amanda Crew), who begins to question everything she thinks she knows about her world after being forced to give up her own dreams while living on a tropical island.
The absorbing trailer which came to the fore earlier this week also heavily features Felton, who portrays Eve’s husband Peter, and Greene, who plays a mysterious woman supposedly stalking Eve and her husband.
The film, which is set to release only in Regal Theatres on January 5, also marks the fourth directorial stint of Avatar fame Joel David Moore.
How Working With James Cameron Helped Avatar Actor Joel David Moore
Moore’s Spellman stars in Avatar as Jake Sully’s jealous colleague and then steadily becomes one of his closest allies, siding with the Na’vi in their conflict with the RDA. Much like his character, Moore has also enjoyed a lot of growth during a 13-year-long period between Avatar and Avatar 2. During this phase of his career, he transitioned into directing properly and led two feature films, Youth in Oregon and Hide and Seek.
When CBR asked Moore what did he take away from his Avatar collaboration with James Cameron, he replied:
“It is fundamentally the most important thing I’ve gone through in the 20 years I’ve been a part of this industry. Having two teachers in Jim Cameron and Jon Landau — Jim on the creative and Jon on the producing side of it. Jim is the most creative and brilliant-minded writer/director that we have.”
Moore went on to suggest that initially, he didn’t think he would have been brave enough to take the step toward directing movies, but now he’s really looking forward to telling stories at a greater level.
