While the second film of the franchise took more than a decade to make its way to the theatres, the wait for Avatar: Way of Water was well worth it, which is apparent through the box office success that it proved to be. Thus, James Cameron seems to have made up his mind and doubled down on his efforts to create an entire franchise around the series for the future.
Thus, along with the production of the next film in the series, he has also slowly started to reveal what the fourth film of the franchise would look like.

Through interviews with multiple sources, the Titanic director has revealed key pieces of information regarding the proposed Avatar 4 which we will see once the third film in the series is released. So far, Cameron has revealed that the development phase of the film has already started and that penning the script and screenplay might be completed shortly.

Along with that, he also revealed that the production of the film will start as soon as Avatar 3 is released, which is expected to be somewhere around the holiday season of 2025. He also claimed that the story will take a major turn in the film as it will be narrated six years in the future after the events of the third film.
Finally, to put the fans’ minds at ease, Cameron revealed that the fourth film is eyeing a release date of December 21, 2029.
