Lords of the Fallen, the Souls-like title from CI Games and Hexworks released on October 13 and has done quite well in terms of revenue. The game features exciting RPG gameplay and mechanics with a massive open world for players to explore.
Lords of the Fallen is a reboot of the 2014 game of the same name from the developer Deck13 with a new storyline and reworked combat mechanics. The game has full co-op and players can switch back and forth in two worlds, one for the dead and one for the living, and explore while battling dangerous and powerful enemies.
There was a lot of buzz around the game and although it game seems to be doing well for many, a large number of players are still not satisfied with the Souls-like. The game has received its share of both praise and criticism from fans on X, formerly Twitter.
Lords of the Fallen isn’t Everybody’s Favorite Souls-like
Lords of the Fallen has been praised for being true to the Souls-like genre and also criticized for performance issues on platforms by both fans and critics. The game has seen mixed reviews so far and currently has a 73 rating for PS5 and 76 for PC on Metacritic, a 75 rating on Opencritic, and mixed reviews on Steam at the time of writing.
The game is well above its predecessor but still behind other Souls-like games such as Lies of P. Lords of the Fallen has been plagued with several issues on PC such as frequent crashes, constant FPS drops, and stuttering while playing. The game is facing texture loading issues on Xbox and many more issues across platforms.
Players have praised the combat mechanics, the beautiful open world that spans two worlds, and the intense atmosphere. However, many have also criticized how the combat gets repetitive and there is little to no variety as players progress further in the game, unlike other games in the genre. The game being in the Souls-like genre was always to have this kind of comparison, but the performance issues have only made it worse.
Do NOT play Lords Of The Fallen in coop. It is in a disgraceful state. Terrible framerate, bugs, textures are absolutely shocking, rendering issues and constantly being stuck on your coop partner.
The game is so much better in solo. Seriously disappointed in the way coop is.

Lords of the Fallen has such an amazing concept that is bogged down by the worst start levels and bosses. Congregator of Flesh was terrible & scaling the cliffside and swamps for the first two main levels was just the worst, considering they’re the worst bit of the OG Dark Souls

The game has garnered appreciation for its visuals, mostly challenging battles as we as the so-called “seamless co-op.” Players have encountered several bugs, texture loading, and rendering issues. Although players have also appreciated the concept of the game, they also criticized the game levels and bosses.
Folks… hear me out… we got ourselves a new souls…
So far Lords of the Fallen is pretty incredible. The atmosphere in this game is intense, scary, makes you want to cling to your life and find the next check point. pic.twitter.com/RnkTvQyv9u

Rolled credits for 1 of the endings to Lords of the Fallen.
One of the toughest "Souls-like" games imo. It was very unforgiving during exploration sections. I gotta give credit where it's due, so GGs for challenging me.
Took about 36-37 hours, solo. @lotfgame #LordsOfTheFallen pic.twitter.com/lCoBnFyyqp

However, some players also seem to have loved the game for its battles and dual-reality mechanic that seems to make the game feel like a puzzle platformer. The density of enemies and the poor enemy design have also raised the questions on developers’ decision of heightening difficulty which is just the same on higher levels and ultimately gets repetitive. The game has also been accused of leaving some areas unfinished and even text alignments are terrible.
The technical issues of the game are bound to be addressed with patch updates in the future but at launch, the game has been terrible for most players. Players are annoyed seeing these issues even after the game was in development for around 4 years. Indeed, the game’s bosses are not very spectacular but the combat mechanics make it exciting when players battle a strong boss.
Although there is divided opinion on the game, players seem to be enjoying the game and while there are performance issues, developers have jumped on the issues and have shared tips for players to avoid these problems for a smooth gaming experience. The developers have released patches for some platforms and some are revealed to be coming soon. It’s yet to be seen how Lords of the Fallen fares after a while and if it will prove to be worthy of Souls-like fan’s praise.
