For an entire generation, Batman meant Michael Keaton. He brought the Dark Knight to life in not one, but two films that helped make Batman arguably the greatest superhero of all time. Decades later, he defied the law of aging by effortlessly slipping back into the cowl for “The Flash”.

Oh, and in between, he also jumped ships to the MCU as Vulture to make things difficult for our Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man. With all this exposure, one might expect Keaton to be a walking encyclopedia of comic book lore. In reality, however, he might just be the most delightfully clueless superhero actor out there.

The multiverse of superhero movies might be complex, not just for fans but for industry veterans as well. Despite donning the role of iconic characters like Batman and Vulture, Michael Keaton happily remains clueless about the details of these comic book universes.

His cameo in Morbius was very confusing for fans, and as it turns out, for Keaton himself. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he expressed his utter surprise at the role. He revealed that neither he was able to understand his role in Morbius nor were the creators able to explain it.

“No, no idea. None. Zero. I mean, they said ‘Okay’… and even they couldn’t quite explain it. They said, ‘Look, let me just kind of tell you,’ and I go, ‘I really don’t quite know what you’re talking about or even who some of these people are,’ and he said, ‘Okay, let me explain,’ but it was complicated because, obviously, they were looking down the road…”

Earlier in the interview, Keaton also revealed that he “is far from a superhero or Marvel aficionado. I need to be educated”. It does sound weird coming from The Dark Knight himself.

Despite His Batman & Spider-Man Roles, Michael Keaton Has Never Seen An Entire Marvel or DC Film

A superhero movie usually closes with a bang. From the watchful guard of Batman in The Dark Knight to the greatest battle in Avengers: Endgame, the climax of a superhero movie is definitely worth a watch. But it seems, Michael Keaton usually changes his mood before getting to the end of a movie.

The guy who played Batman has never actually sat down and watched a complete Marvel or DC movie. He revealed this crazy fact about himself in an interview with Variety. However, he does not have any enmity with the superhero genre. His viewing habits are the same across all genres.

“I know people don’t believe this, that I’ve never seen an entire version of any of those movies — any Marvel movie, any other. And I don’t say that I don’t watch that because I’m highbrow — trust me! It’s not that,” he says. “It’s just that there’s very little things I watch. I start watching something, and think it is great and I watch three episodes, but I have other shit to do!”

Fans can stream Michael Keaton’s Batman movies on Prime Video and Spiderman Homecoming on Disney+.
