Helldivers 2 features a massive collection of talented voice actors, and the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man’s VA Yuri Lowenthal’s work was noticeable. Lowenthal’s talent has taken him far across the industry and landed him the leading role for Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.
Unfortunately, his performance along with the majority of the work done on the project was quietly remade from scratch for unknown reasons.
Ubisoft Remade The Prince Of Persia Remake From Scratch
New information has emerged about the internal changes the developers made for the remake project, and details of what was changed, remade, and carried over seem to indicate that Ubisoft did a significant overhaul and didn’t bother using any work that the original project developer Ubisoft Mumbai and Pune.
When asked about the changes made, the video game company does not see the need to respond to certain questions and simply answered with:
“We do not comment on rumours and speculation”.
Perhaps Lowenthal’s replacement came from a place where Ubisoft believed he was too recognizable for a certain role like Spider-Man and members of the gaming community would constantly point that out and did not want to capitalize on the success of other rivals.
It is unfortunate how the remake project is coming together and removing almost everything from the original since the developers are aiming for a more realistic approach with newer systems, mechanics, and animations.
Helldivers 2 Gave Yuri Lowenthal His Time To Shine
Voice actors are well-known for their exceptional talent, even when they play minor roles in games like Helldivers 2. Gamers can easily recognize their familiar voices. It may be disappointing not to see or hear the hard work of developers and voice talents, but perhaps Ubisoft has some surprises up its sleeves that will amaze fans.
Remakes and remasters of classics are not uncharted waters for the gaming industry, members of the community are actively calling out corporate greed and milking beloved franchises with minor changes for full price, but some embrace the idea of paying for something that means dear to them. The Prince of Persia remake was originally announced in May 2022 and has been delayed multiple times and this shift could have some major ramifications for the end product.
The remake project getting a remake is quite ironic but the community is now curious to see what the developers mean when going for a more realistic approach. All the effort and work that was done before the overhaul will no longer be seen or used, and if Ubisoft is starting from scratch with motion capture, animation, designing the world, and more then it is likely the game will be delayed once more.
Fans of the original will be upset especially when Yuri Lowenthal is not reprising his role as the main protagonist but his work can still be heard across various projects like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Helldivers 2. Hopefully, Ubisoft will manage to release the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake relatively soon and have something to show for it.
