Prince of Persia is an iconic franchise of titles that has everything a hack-and-slash action-adventure game set in a distant past should contain. Its gameplay loop contains time-traveling abilities, parkour, and fluid combat. It was incredibly satisfying, and it has aged very gracefully.
Now, just one day after April Fool’s Day, the next game in the popular franchise is rumored to have been in development for four years and is announced to be coming to Early Access later this year. While it may be good news, some skeptical fans on social media don’t seem to care and are convinced that the title will not perform well.
The Next Prince of Persia Game Is Rumored to Be Coming Later This Year
As reported exclusively by Insider Gaming, the upcoming title in Ubisoft’s franchise, which started as hack-and-slash and later transitioned into Metroidvania, will be Roguelite. The rumor also states that the game will be developed by Evil Empire, the developer known for Dead Cells, a Roguelite Metroidvania game.
The game, rumored to be titled The Rogue Prince of Persia, is said to be coming to Early Access later on Steam. Rumor has it that the game will receive updates constantly, depending on the feedback from the community.
Prominent video game leaker Wario64 also posted the article reporting the rumor on his X account. The leaker didn’t comment on the rumor’s plausibility and just stated the following:
When the news broke out, fans were in disbelief and were skeptical about it; some were even convinced that it was an elaborate April Fool’s prank that trickled its way to April 2 as well.
Some even engaged in banter and stated that the franchise is now exploring almost every genre, and the subsequent title could be an RPG:
Ubisoft hasn’t been successful with its recent title, Skull and Bones, and it has disappointed fans and critics. And it seems that social media strongly feels that the upcoming PoP title will suffer the same fate.
After Skull and Bones Bombed, Fans Think Prince of Persia Is Ubisoft’s Subsequent Failure
Skull and Bones was a title hyped up to be the industry’s first quadruple-A title, but it didn’t shape up to be one worth remembering and ended up being boundlessly mediocre. Fans are visibly unimpressed and skeptical after the rumor about the alleged PoP game in development.
Some fans have faith in the rumored game’s developer but not the publisher house:
A lot of fans are also not looking forward to the title because Roguelite is not a genre popular among the masses.
The Assassin’s Creed publisher might have to deal with the negative sentiment. Also, the title’s genre might limit its popularity, so things don’t seem to be looking up for it, even though it will be part of a franchise considered to be one of the most iconic ones in the industry.
Do you think that the title could surprise fans with its quality, or will it bomb, as many are saying it will? We would love to know your thoughts in the comment section below!
