At this point, Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones was slowly starting to become a forgotten myth and a game that was never going to be released. To put that statement into context, the action-adventure title’s release date has been delayed multiple times, gradually destroying all hopes and anticipation that fans might have once had.
But fortunately, although it’s basically the sixth release date that Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones has reportedly received, it has been unofficially revealed that the pirate-themed game will finally come out in February 2024.
Considering how Ubisoft officially showed Skull and Bones for the first time around six years ago at E3 2017, it was about time fans heard something about its release date.
Ubisoft Reportedly Has a February Release Date for Skull and Bones
Ubisoft may not have officially said anything about the release date for Skull and Bones, but according to Insider Gaming, the pirate adventure will finally be set free onto the ocean on February 16, 2024.
This is absolutely amazing news for fans who had been waiting for the game since it was initially announced all the way back in 2017, but of course, since the title has already been through five reported release dates before this, the community may want to keep its excitement in check.
It definitely falls in line with some previous developments in the curious case of Skull and Bones, especially when just a month ago, Ubisoft officially stated that it would launch the game sometime in Q4 FY23-24.
Although the official update by Ubisoft was quite vague and did not provide an exact release date for the long-awaited Skull and Bones, the latest report connects with it almost perfectly. To get the game’s fans even more hyped up, around a week ago, on November 20, Yahoo News reported that the publisher’s Singapore studio was going to get a new managing director, with the old one moving to Toronto to take care of things there.
How that story relates to the Skull and Bones release date is that the MD who left the Ubisoft Singapore office, Darryl Long, confirmed that the game will be launched before the aforementioned fiscal year ends.
In layman terms, that meant that Ubisoft was eyeing a release date for Skull and Bones that fell somewhere in between January and March 2024. Considering all of these developments, February 2024 obviously falls in between those two months, so the studio’s next grand pirate epic could actually be just around the corner.
There may still be some time before Skull and Bones officially launches worldwide, but diehard fans of Ubisoft can pre-order the base title from the publisher’s store for $59.99, whereas the Premium Edition is priced at $89.99.
What Comes With the Skull and Bones Premium Edition
According to the official Skull and Bones listing on the Ubisoft Store, there are currently two editions of the game that can be pre-ordered. The first one is simply called the Standard Edition, which obviously just includes the base game, but the more expensive Premium Edition comes with some additional content. This will include the base Skull and Bones packed with a Premium Bonus Pack, which has something called the Ballad of Bloody Bones Collection.
If that does not seem like much incentive to purchase the Skull and Bones Premium Edition, Ubisoft also graciously included two whole additional missions and a Smuggler pass token into it. But wait, there is more, since the $30+ version of the game comes with a digital artbook and soundtrack as well. There is also good news for Ubisoft+ subscribers: for $14.99 per month, they can get access to the Skull and Bones Premium Edition as well as more than a hundred other PC titles.
It has been a while since Ubisoft fans have been on a great pirate adventure with the studio, the last one being around ten years ago with the spectacular Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Seeing how well the developers handled the ship mechanics and combat all the way back in 2013 should definitely put more faith in the upcoming Skull and Bones, which already has an amazing sea foundation set for it.
Ubisoft could be waiting for The Game Awards 2023, which are airing on December 7, to officially announce the release date.
Until then, fans just have to take every new development with a grain of salt.
