As per the studio’s financial report released recently by the Studio, Star Wars Outlaws weren’t mentioned particularly. But a game being referred to by the company as the other large game is reported to launch in FY 2024-2025. Since the report did not pinpoint to the game, there is no official confirmation.

Skull and Bones is another Ubisoft game that is long awaited by gamers. It is a pirate game which was first announced in E3 2017. Ever since its announcement it has been delayed several times, six times to be exact.

In the studio’s newest financial report, Skull and Bones, unlike Star Wars Outlaws was forthrightly mentioned. The game which was previously supposed to be released in March 2023 before being delayed in January 2023.

Star Wars Outlaws was first announced in 2020. The company mentioned that it would be developing an open-world Star Wars game. This marked an end to EA’s long-reigning exclusivity with Star Wars‘ rights.

In 2021, it was announced that Massive Entertainment would be the primary studio working on the title which was under license by Lucasfilm Games. Before the latest announcement, Star Wars Outlaws had an undefined release date of 2024.

The announcement, however, seems to be indirectly addressing the game and referring to it as the other big game. Here are some excerpts from the announcement:

The overperformance in Q2 and the current positive momentum of Ubisoft’s brands build
confidence for the rest of the year. The Company can therefore confirm its announced
guidance of strong top line growth and non-IFRS operating income of approximately €400
million…

The announcement further mentioned that:

…without releasing the other large game it had initially planned to launch during the
last quarter of the current fiscal year.

The Company has decided to launch this other large game in FY2024-25, so as to maximize
its value creation.

Before the latest announcement made in the financial report, Star Wars Outlaws was supposed to be released in early 2024, This was allegedly reported by internal sources to Kotaku and Ubisoft didn’t comment on these reports at the time.

Even then, as per the reports, the target was mentioned as being too ambitious. And plans to delay the Star Wars Outlaws release to the next fiscal year weren’t considered unlikely.

Skull and Bones Delayed for the Sixth Time

Apart from Star Wars Outlaws, Skulls and Bones is also delayed once again.
Apart from Star Wars Outlaws, Skull and Bones is also delayed once again.

Ubisoft’s upcoming game Skull and Bones has been reported been in development since 2014. It is evident that Ubisoft wants to ensure that it delivers the best possible experience to players. However, the number of times the game has been delayed might be a little too many.

Especially when the game had already been delayed six times before the announcement made by Ubisoft’s financial report recently. The most recent delay pushed the game to early 2023-2024 which was vague, to say the least.

The latest development for Skull and Bones in the financial reports for the first half of its ongoing fiscal year has given the game a more rigid window. As per the latest financial report by the studio, the game is set to release in Q4 2023-2024. This means that Skull and Bones could drop anywhere between the start of January and the concluding days of March.

The official statement in the report reads:

The lineup for the remainder of the fiscal year includes, on the premium side, Assassin’s
Creed Mirage, Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora™, Just
Dance® 2024 edition, Prince of Persia The Lost Crown and Skull and Bones™, which
is set to release during Q4 2023-24.

It is worth noting that the first release date of the game was Fall 2018. The first delay projected that it would be released in 2019-20. It was then pushed to 2020, then to 2021. After that, it was pushed to 2022-2023. The second latest release date for the game was in November 2023.

It is natural that so many delays in release, despite the game having been in development since 2013 do not bode well. But here is to hoping that Skull and Bones does not follow the likes of Star Citizen.
