Iñaki Godoy was the perfect choice for the role of Monkey D. Luffy in the successful One Piece Live-Action adaptation. He perfectly embodied Luffy and won the hearts of millions of fans with his portrayal. Not only that, he even got praise from the mastermind behind the story of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda himself. Godoy’s adaptation of the character was spot on as he was able to bring the enthusiastic, optimistic side of Luffy to life. Not only did Godoy bring the character to life, but he also learned a lot from the character.
Almost everyone who has watched One Piece live-action believes that Godoy shares a certain kind of similarity with Luffy and he was the perfect choice, except for Godoy as he thinks there is one aspect that separates him from Luffy.
Iñaki Godoy Learned a Lot from Luffy
Iñaki Godoy Jasso is a Mexican actor who plays the character of Luffy in One Piece Live-Action. During a promotional interview, while talking to Collider, Godoy explained that he has a lot of similar qualities to his on-screen character Luffy. Just like Luffy he is an energetic person and is always ready for the next step. He like his character loves to enjoy the moment which for sure makes him the best choice. He said:
“I think I do have a lot of Luffy inside me. I’ve always been a very energetic person, that’s for sure. I love to celebrate, and I love to eat. I do feel like him in a lot of ways. I also feel like I can learn a lot from him.”
Godoy stated that there are a lot of things that he has in common with Luffy but he also feels like there are a lot of things that he can learn from the character and use in his daily life. However, he believes that there is one thing that separates him from Luffy.
Unlike Luffy, Iñaki Godoy second-guesses Himself
While talking about his resemblance with Luffy in terms of qualities, Godoy stated that there is one thing that is different between Luffy and him. He said unlike Luffy, he second-guesses himself and he has some insecurities. He said:
“Unlike Luffy, sometimes I do second-guess myself, and I do have insecurities. I think when I play Luffy, I feel inspired to be stronger and be more brave. So there is a lot that I share with Luffy, and there’s also a lot that I can learn from him, too.”
Godoy states that Luffy inspires him to be stronger and helps him learn a lot from his character. He feels like he needs to be brave just like Luffy and stop second-guessing himself.
