The Marvel comics usually have had their fair share of freakish, startling, and unusual storylines, that not many people have been aware of. Despite their immense popularity, one can often find one or the other shocking arc involving characters that an MCU fan would have never dared to imagine.
One of these narrative arcs is when Thanos and Hela got together in the Marvel comics. A truly unusual event that even Marvel comics fans might have not expected, here is a glimpse into the unlikely romance of the Mad Titan and the Goddess of Death.
When Thanos Dumped Hela After a Brief Romance
A romance between Thanos and Hela seems something out of a Wattpad fanfiction, yet it did actually take place during one shocking Marvel Comics arc. In the comic Thor #4 (2018) by Jason Aaron, Thor and Loki go to the realm of the dead Hel, where also the current war against Sindr is being fought.
Reunited with their brother Balder the Brave (the regent of Hel), they find Hela and her brother Fenris Wolf, the children of Loki trying to reclaim Hela’s lost throne. To stop her from fighting with the Asgardians, Loki proposes Hela be married off to Balder.
Reluctant to go through, Thanos (Hela’s boyfriend) shows up. While the Goddess of Death thinks he is there to help, the Mad Titan actually breaks up with her in front of everyone, stating that the Infinity Stones have shown up again and that he must go reclaim his destiny.
Thanos, not caring at all, goes off as Hela exclaims that she is worth more than those baubles and that they will turn out to be the death of him (which did turn out true). As the war against Sindr comes to a halt, Karnilla (lover of Balder) instead marries Hela, and Loki takes away Balder back to the land of living.
When Hela Resurrects Thanos After He Dies Because of Gamora
In the Unworthy Thor series, Hela ends up meeting Thanos and promises him if he helps her reclaim her lost kingdom she will help him get Death. The two later on share a kiss, but we all know how horribly that ends up.
Yet despite Thanos being in love with Death, Hela is still not over the Mad Titan even though he cruelly dumped her. When he ends up dying in the the Guardians of the Galaxy comic series (2019), Hela along with the Black Order desperately tries to bring him back to life.
They eventually succeed and Thanos is resurrected in the body of his brother Eros. Taking him back to the base of the Black Order, as Thanos is entering his real body, the Guardians enter and Gamora kills Eros leading to the transfer getting wrong and Thanos being resurrected as a maniac.
As Hela brings on the Black Hole Cannon, things go wrong and ultimately the canon ends up hitting the mad Thanos. As he becomes a Black Hole and gets sucked into it, Hela being close to him ends up getting sucked into it too.
And that is how the tragic love story of the Goddess of Death and the Mad Titan comes to an end.
