When Marvel wanted to cast an actor for the role of Thanos, Josh Brolin became the go-to guy for the role of the Mad Titan. Portraying a brilliant character throughout the MCU, Brolin’s Thanos literally became inevitable and wreaked havoc for the Avengers.
Following his death in Avengers: Endgame, Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe came to an end. And with that, Phase 4 continued carrying on the story of the remaining heroes but it was kind of dull. An interesting theory proves why Phase 4 and 5 feel a bit dull and it’s all connected to the mercy of Thanos!
Josh Brolin’s Thanos Was More Merciful Than People Thought!
The first line of defense in favor of Thanos has become a pretty common point now. Wanting to erase half of the universe so that the other half could live peacefully, Thanos essentially chose the lesser evil (as Geralt said in The Witcher).
Although his point was valid, erasing half of the universe was generally considered a bad idea. After Thanos completed his plan, he retired and went to farming and living a peaceful life until the Avengers found and killed him. Going back in the past and fixing things, Thanos was erased once and for all and the world went back to a somewhat normal state.
With Phase 4 arriving, the MCU projects were a bit dull and not as great as Phase 3 of the Universe. This brilliant theory might just answer the question of why. Josh Brolin as Thanos, being a merciful titan (with exceptions, of course) did not want people to suffer. When Doctor Strange sat down to look at the possibilities of the Avengers bringing the people back, only one worked.
This fan theory on Reddit states that Thanos also saw the future and saw nothing but suffering and death for the superheroes. With the Infinity Gauntlet having its own mind of who lives and dies, the random killing of superheroes wasn’t so random and there was a very specific reason behind it.
Thanos Did Not Want The People To Suffer
As the theory further continues, it is alleged that the Mad Titan saw the future and saw suffering. For example, MJ forgot Peter Parker. Since Thanos already knew that this future was going to happen, he tried to wipe out half the universe but chose the Avengers who had a bit more “dull” life compared to the other superheroes.
Opting to spare them the pain of their future, Thanos wiped out half of the universe but the killings weren’t so random after all. This is the reason, Phase 4 felt a little bit duller compared to the rest of the MCU. This theory does not have proper proof but it does set within the Mad Titan’s persona and character while another theory states his potential return! Although this theory does give Thanos a bit more emotional and merciful side, in the end, it remains a theory.
