Leonardo DiCaprio is a brilliant actor, and a part of it is because of his habit of doing things in real life to really sell it on-screen — even fight scenes. While that portrays an exceptional image for him on the big screens, it sometimes drives his co-stars insane to the point where they want to take revenge on him: just like Jonah Hill did.

No hard feelings but DiCaprio really got the best of Hill while they were working on The Wolf of Wall Street together by hitting him in real life everytime they had to shoot a fight scene. Thus, Hill decided to take revenge on him, and the way he did that by using just his brain is nothing short than the stuff of literal legends.

Shortly following the release of The Wolf of Wall Street, Jonah Hill and Leonardo DiCaprio appeared in press junkets to promote their film together. During this, Hill shared how he got hit in real life throughout the scenes where DiCaprio was seen hitting him in the movie (via OutstandingScreenplays):

“Any time you do any sort of physical scene with Leonardo DiCaprio, he doesn’t understand that it’s acting and he beats the living crap out of you for six months.”

Continuing, he shared examples of when he fell victim to this habit of the Titanic star:

“As you can see in the Lude fight or any other scene, I get punched in the face, I got punched in the face for real. It was like, I got to get him back. And since I can’t physically beat him up back because he’s bigger than me, I had to use my brain to beat him up.”

Thus, Jonah Hill decided on an epic plan to get back at DiCaprio.

“There was a scene which is my favorite scene between us. It is my favorite scene I’ve ever shot in a movie actually. And in the sushi scene, the line was written as he was supposed to say, ‘Do you want that last piece of yellowtail?’ And I was supposed to say, ‘yes’ and then eat it. And the first take, he goes, ‘Take that last piece of yellowtail’, and I go, ‘It’s all yours.’ And then so he had to eat it. So he had to match that take for the rest of the night.”

Eating raw fish for one whole night throughout the shoot must have been terrible for Leonardo DiCaprio indeed, but it wasn’t like he could back out of it: that was his punishment for hitting Hill in real life!

Jonah Hill then shared how Leonardo DiCaprio was by the end of the night after one whole night of eating sushi.

“By the end of the night, he was on the floor, throwing up into a waste bin. And everyone was like, ‘Leo, are you okay? Are you okay?’ And the only two people on the floor laughing hysterically were myself and Martin Scorsese. And it was one of the better moments of the whole shoot.”

To have even the filmmaker aka Martin Scorsese on his side? Hill was most certainly on an advantage here! Lastly, he concluded by saying:

“Use your brain. It’s better than your muscles.”

Seems like it would be a long time before Leonardo DiCaprio decides to mess up with Jonah Hill again!
