While the soulful singer has been one of R&B’s big stars, his personal life has been pretty controversial, to say the least, with marital and monetary issues taking center stage. Usher who was married twice, has had to shell out a significant amount of money for his divorces.

Usher And His Two Failed Marriages

Between 2007 and 2009, Usher was married to Tameka Foster, a celebrity stylist 8 years his senior, and a divorced mother with 3 sons from a previous marriage. Right from the outset, their marriage went through a few trials including a sudden cancellation of their original wedding day which was allegedly brought on by Usher’s mother’s displeasure at the union. After rescheduling it a month later, the couple subsequently had two sons together.

Through this period, Foster claimed that she faced very rocky moments with harsh criticisms being levied at her even from women regarding her age, looks, and also her alleged ulterior motive for marrying the Yeah singer. Despite the lows, Foster revealed to Page Six while promoting her memoir, that she went into the marriage for all the right reasons.

“The truth is, I really, really loved my husband. It wasn’t bulls–t. It wasn’t gold-digging. I always said that I took a pay cut when I married him.”

With the brutal public speculations putting a huge stress on the relationship, Foster’s last desperate effort to save her marriage led to her attempting cosmetic surgery in Brazil right after the birth of her son, which resulted in an almost fatal situation after she suffered a cardiac arrest. Unable to iron out their differences, the couple filed for divorce in 2009 when Foster’s woes compounded even more as Usher gained custody of the two children.

Following his split, the singer went on to date long-time manager Grace Miguel for a few years before marrying her in 2015. Unfortunately, this union also lasted for just two years despite showing signs of a long-lasting relationship. Unlike the Usher-Foster divorce, this split was an amicable one according to a joint statement released by both parties.

The Grammy winner is now currently seeing Jenn Goicoechea who is also in the music industry as Senior Vice President of A&R at Epic Records. The couple have reportedly been dating since 2016 and look to be going strong in 2024. It now remains to be seen if the third time is the charm for Usher, if he chooses to go down the marriage path.

How Much Money Did Usher Lose Through Divorce Settlements?

Divorces aren’t just hard on the emotions, but also burn a pretty big hole in the pocket when it comes to alimony. Singer Usher faced the brunt of this in two splits with Tameka Foster and Grace Miguel. His first marriage to Foster was also marred by a lot of controversial events that led to the OMG singer filing for sole custody of their two sons.

Despite the notion that she received a hefty divorce settlement from Usher, Foster claimed to Page Six that the amount was under $1 million. But the total may have augmented to about $3 million according to reports if child support had also been accounted for. The amount that Usher paid to his second wife Miguel, was kept under wraps following a confidentiality agreement that was signed between them.

All things considered, while Usher may not have parted with a great deal of money when compared to his much more expensive STD lawsuit drama, the fact remains that the singer’s finances did face a significant drain through his splits.
