Baldur’s Gate 3 has been out for less than 2 months and players have already found ways to annoy their in-game companions. In Baldur’s Gate 3, companions are special NPCs who can be recruited by players to join and aid them as they explore and engage in combat along the way. While companions can be quite helpful for players in the game, some gamers have compiled an entire list of what to do to choose to annoy companions.

Do take note that there might be potential spoilers in the article that follows. The compiled list contains actions that bring down companion approvals massively.

Companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 Have Unique Abilities

Every companion in Baldur’s Gate 3 will have their stats, lore, equipment, and abilities and will require certain conditions to be fulfilled for them to be recruited by players. The companions’ traits are measured in terms of their strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, charisma, and wisdom. Each of the companions will bring with them a specific set of equipment and skill proficiencies when they meet the player for the first time.

While companions might mostly agree with a player’s choice to engage in violence, not all of them will agree with a player murdering someone they barely know, for example. Engaging in conversations might also bring down a companion’s approval ratings if the choices made don’t fall in line with what the companion stands for.

An easier way of getting their disapproval, however, has been discovered by a gamer as explained below.

By winning over companion approvals, players can choose their companions to be their romantic partners in the game as well. It might not be smooth sailing to win over a companion completely, but thanks to a Redditor, gamers can now get their companions in the game to disapprove of them rather quickly.

Reddit user with the ID r/sudosussudio has a list of actions that gets the maximum disapproval from a player’s chosen companion. The compilation lists what to do, or not to do, depending on how players wish to progress with a companion in the game, to get disapproval from the companions Astarion, Shadowheart, Karlach, Gale, Jaheira, and Minsc.

While the list was compiled by going through the game’s initial script, there might be some changes to the script since the game’s updates and patches since launch. With that being said, there are spoilers in the linked Reddit post above.

To upset Gale, players constantly choose to reply to the NPC with “I’m not giving you anything. Not now, not ever“, after he’s done asking the player for a magic item twice. This brings down Gale’s approval by 30 points.

Acquiring the book about the Crown of Karsus and insisting Gale cannot look at it, docks 20 points off Gale’s approval. To bring down Karlach’s approval by 20 points, players must defeat Gortash without having Karlach in their party.

The Reddit post above provides the full list of choices discovered so far, that players can refer to, if they don’t mind the spoilers and if they don’t wish to get a companion’s approval to the maximum. Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 remains highly rated by reviewers and on Metacritic as well. The game is selling for $59.99 on Steam for PC, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X|S consoles, as well as on the Mac running their latest OS, Sonoma.
