While recent Warhammer 40K games haven’t received universal praise, the sequel to the 2011 Space Marine has a chance to turn that fact around. The upcoming title brings back Captain Titus, the infamous supersoldier from the original game and fans want to know more about him as he was nowhere to be found in Warhammer 40K literature until recently.

The original Space Marine game introduced Captain Titus to the Warhammer 40k universe as an Ultramarine leader. However, his place in the official lore remained quite unclear.  Unlike established characters, Captain Titus wasn’t mentioned in any official Warhammer 40K media.

However, Boltgun changed that as the game referenced Titus, and Games Workshop Group included the famous captain in their miniature tabletop lineup.

In a recent interview, the creative director of the upcoming third-person shooter, Oliver Hollis-Leick spoke about Captain Titus’ canonicity. He referenced Games Workshop’s stance on the eponymous character and hinted at the potential inclusion of Titus into the official canon.

using a process of extrapolation from what [Games Workshop] has publicly said, if Titus is in the tabletop game, that means it’s canon, right? I can’t tell you yes, but I will say it certainly looks that way.

While Hollis-Leick wasn’t exactly adamant about Captain Titus’ lore, it is safe to say that his character is the one to turn around the popularity of video games set in the infamous universe.

Fans of the original Space Marine are excited to see the return of Captain Titus, though this time he comes back as Lieutenant. Accompanied by his fellow Ultramarines, they will face monstrous Tyranids in the highly anticipated sequel.

The excitement can’t be overshadowed by the grim darkness of the 41st millennium as the Space Marine 2 release date of September 9 draws closer and closer.

The campaign mode promises improved gameplay and a deeper story, but that is not the only thing that keeps fans on their toes. It is a brutal and replayable PvE campaign with six classes and a 6v6 PvP mode.

Moreover, Space Marine 2 has a huge potential for a fantastic horde mode as waves of Tyranids are perfect for purging.

The very return of Captain Titus certainly clarifies the ending of the original game, and with him in line to become a bonafide lore character, is a cause for celebration.

Will Space Marine 2 live up to the hype? Will Captain Titus finally be officially recognized within the gothic universe? Only time will tell.
