“We absolutely did see a bit of a halo effect, if you will, from the movie on our video game business in a number of ways: whether that’s players re-engaging in content, or whether that’s players purchasing new software, Mario software and games, or whether it’s even at our Nintendo Store players purchasing attire and plushies and other things.”

Nintendo came out with their latest earning reports of the previous quarter (April-June 2023) and it was evident how the film “positively impacted sales of Mario-related titles,” specifically mentioning Mario Kart 8. One of the biggest and most anticipated movies of 2023 was The Super Mario Bros. It collected more than Disney’s Frozen. This movie is third in the list of highest-grossing animated films ever made after Frozen 2 and The Lion King (2019).
