Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is just a few short months away from release. The latest installment in the rich first-person-shooter franchise promises the return of intense multiplayer combat, a fan-favorite Zombie mode, and a campaign that will keep everyone on the edge of their feet.
While Treyarch confirmed 16 new maps for launch, it seems that one iconic map is included in that number and is returning in the latest installment. Nuketown has been a staple of the series since its debut in 2010’s Black Ops 1.
Black Ops and Nuketown Share a History
The franchise wouldn’t be the same without this particular map. The iconic multiplayer combat map has been a staple since its debut. This simple, symmetrical map, features two mirrored houses featuring two mirrored houses with backyards, a central road with parked vehicles, and limited flanking routes.
The first iteration of the map had a distinct 1950s American suburban aesthetic, inspired by nuclear test sites. Since then, the map has seen multiple remakes and revamps each giving a fresh take on the classic map layout.
As a result, Nuketown 2025 was seen in Black Ops 2, a futuristic reimagining, then Black Ops 3 gave players a neon-lit version of the map, while Black Ops: Cold War uttered way to a more weathered and rundown version of the map set in the 1980s.
Each iteration of the eponymous map has its loyal fan base and wow, with the next title around the corner, it seems that the map is returning with a new twist.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Will Reportedly Feature Sand Nuketown
The recent news of Nuketown making the cut has made fans feel tricked and disappointed. Since Treyarch promised 16 new maps, no one was thinking about this old map. While some understand the nostalgic nod and how popular this particular map is, many aren’t feeling it.
The fans are especially against the sandy version as many were hoping for a vibrant one or the one from Black Ops 2 or a new colorful iteration. Several fans that this was bound to happen since the map is part of every major installment in the franchise.
Another fan has said that the map is overrated in any form be that original or any of the revams and remakes.
Contrasting to these frustration-imbued comments, some fans can’t wait to play multiplayer since they feel the new look is great.
Moreover, another fan agreed saying that the map is best for multiplayer mode. While rumors are still unconfirmed and running wild, fan debate on a possible inclusion in the upcoming title rages on.
