The sequel to the 2019 film Shazam! has been facing a hard time since its release. The Zachary Levi feature barely managed to cross $100 million at the box office as it records a massive drop in its second weekend at the box office. On the contrary, John Wick 4, marking the return of Keanu Reeves as the titular hero has been thriving at the box office with a $137.5 million collection globally in its opening weekend.
Amidst all this, the Shazam star shared a video talking about why people should see his DC feature instead of the fourth installment in the neo-noir action franchise. And the message seems to have conveyed some tension between the Shazam and John Wick fans.
Zachary Levi Seemingly Disses Keanu Reeves’ John Wick 4
In a now-viral video Shazam star Zachary Levi can be seen stating the reasons to watch Shazam! Fury of the Gods instead of John Wick: Chapter 4. The short clip features him telling people to watch the Keanu Reeves feature if they want to, but he also adds that it’s not a family movie, mentioning that it features some hardcore action sequences.
The Chuck star shares that he loves Keanu Reeves, and John Wick 4 is also an amazing film. He further says that if someone is not interested in seeing gun shooting sequences, they can opt for Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

He further says that the Shazam sequel is a “far better film,” claiming that those who have seen the film agree with it too. The American Underdog star seems to implicate that the Fury of the Gods is much better than John Wick: Chapter 4. This led many to assume that Levi dissing John Wick: Chaper4, to express his disappointment with Shazam 2’s box office reception.
The Truth Behind Zachary Levi’s Viral Video
The viral clip that shows Zachary Levi ranting about how John Wick: Chapter 4 is not a family video has turned out to be edited. The actual video is almost 14 minutes long and has been edited out to twist the Alias Grace actor’s words.
Levi does mention that John Wick 4 is not a family movie, and his DC film would be a better option for people who do not enjoy “hardcore” action sequences. And when he said that Shazam 2 is a far better film, he did not compare it with John Wick. He stated it concerning the reviews the film has received.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods has a 51% critic score and an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. He also urged his fans to watch the film and share their honest opinion on the review aggregator. The Remember Sunday star described the Shazam sequel as a throwback to all the movies he loved growing up.
He further stated that Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a “far better film than some of these critics” have claimed it to be. He further mentions the difference between the critics and audience scores and ends his live stream after answering some fans’ questions.
While the edited clip makes it seem like Levi ranted over John Wick 4 the whole time, he barely mentioned the film for a minute in the video.
