In the 13-year gap between Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake 2 and the original, the gaming industry has come a long way. The studio themselves since come out with a spin-off of the game titled, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, and many other notable releases like Quantum Break in 2016, Control in 2019, a remastered version of their 2010 game titled, Alan Wake Remastered in 2021, and an FPS CrossfireX, in 2022. The studio is returning to the horror genre with a sequel to the smash hit from 2010, titled Alan Wake 2, coming out later this year in October.

Alan Wake‘s sequel debuted at Gamescom’s glamorous opening night, with a trailer that showcased a mix of gameplay, in-game cinematics, and in-game live action. As per Game Director Sam Lake, the game is meant to give players an unsettling experience from start to end. The game will feature two characters, Alan Wake and Saga Anderson as the game features two separate single-player stories. The stories can be played in any order that the players choose, however, the opening and ending sequences of the game are set to be played as the respective characters, Saga and Alan.

Alan Wake 2 is a survival horror game and the story returns to the best-selling thriller novelist Alan Wake. The nightmarish trailer showcased how the titular character has been struggling to escape an alternate dimension for 13 years, as he writes a horror story that involves an FBI agent named Saga Anderson. The trailer mixed live-action scenes and in-game cinematics which gelled quite well.

The studio nailed the announcement by stating how they hoped the date shift would allow gamers to have more space to enjoy all of their favorite games coming out in October. Spider-Man 2 is one of the biggest titles released in the month of October this year, and Sam Lake mentioned “October is very crowded with awesome, brilliant games coming out.” He went on to say how he didn’t want to go neck to neck with all the brilliant games like Spider-Man 2 that’s coming out in the same month. He decided he would rather just shift the release date for Alan Wake 2 by a few days.
