In the seventh episode titled I’m Not Going Anywhere, a particular action by Rex Splode has sparked a buzz among fans. In a specific sequence, the character imitates Spider-Man’s web-throwing hand motion.

The buzz was even more elevated when Invincible’s official X handle also acknowledged the reference and tweeted- “With great power comes great energy blasts using this hand motion for no particular reason at all”.

Fans were anticipating that he would actually voice Spider-Man himself in the show. However, when Angstrom Levy eventually ends up sending Mark to another dimension, audiences and Mark alike come face to face with Agent Spider, Keaton’s character, and stand in for Spider-Man.

But, show creator Robert Kirkman in an interview with Variety, said that Marvel wasn’t told about the Agent Spider cameo. When asked if he was on the phone with Marvel lawyers regarding all these involvement, Kirkman said:

No, I mean, I’m pretty sure Marvel found out about it today. So, we didn’t call any Marvel lawyers or anything. No, that was Amazon’s legal department’s job to make sure that Marvel didn’t need to know.”

Though, for some reason, the creators could not bring Spider-Man himself, it was the closest to a continuation of The Spectacular Spider-Man.
