Invincible’s Season 2 also incorporated the multiversal theme into its storyline with the introduction of Armstrong Levy. According to a new theory, multiversal play at the end of Season 2 may give a new direction to the series.

Since its launch, Invincible has been one of the most popular superhero projects. The series inspired by Robert Kirkman’s comic series was mostly faithful to the source material with minor changes. However, a new theory on Reddit by the user @ hints that Season 2’s ending may present a significant deviation from the comics.

This new theory states that Mark Grayson will be lost in another universe and the superheroes of that universe might want to hunt him down. The Steven Yeun character will have a tough time convincing them that he is not the same Mark and will try to find a way back home. This theory also aligns perfectly with the Season 2 premiere that shocked the fans.

In Season 2’s Episode 1, we got our first look at Invincible‘s multiverse. The episode opens up by showing an evil Mark Grayson who has joined the Viltrum empire to take over Earth along with his Omni-Man. The fans were shocked to see such a drastic change in Mark Grayson so soon after his fierce battle against his father at Season 1’s finale only to find out that it was a different Mark.

The introduction of Armstrong Levy, who is one of the iconic villains of the superhero in the Invincible comics, ensured the fans with loads of Multiversal fun in the second season. His forthcoming big fight against Mark Grayson in the season finale suggests that the character will go on a multiversal trip and may get stranded in the evil universe shown in the first episode.

Even though the multiversal concept exists in Robert Kirkman‘s comics, such a storyline never existed in the comics. This potential shocker can take the series in a new direction in the further seasons. However, the fans must note that the multiversal theme in Invincible will play out differently than the other superhero franchises.

What did Robert Kirkman say about Invincible‘s multiverse?

The character of Armstrong Levy introduced the multiversal aspect in Invincible. He is a new villain who can open portals to other universes. However, Robert Kirkman stated that the character played by Sterling K. Brown will give us a more unique approach to multiverse than what Marvel and DC did with their projects.

Robert Kirkman spoke to Screen Rant that he is frustrated with how the superhero franchises are exploiting the Multiversal theme now. He adds that when he wrote about Armstrong Levy in the comics, neither the Spider-Verse took place nor the iconic Flashpoint happened. However, Kirkman made it clear that his show would present the audience with a distinct approach to the concept.

“It’s really cool because the way that we’re handling alternate dimensions is extremely different than everything else. It’s a little bit more character-based. It’s a little bit more focused. It’s not just used as a tool to give you a hundred different versions of a cool thing that you love. It’s really a storytelling tool that we use in a cool way.”

Despite calling his multiversal theory different from the others, Robert Kirkman thanked (via The Ringer) the multiversal projects like Everything Everywhere All At Once that made the audience familiar with the complicated concept.

Now it will be interesting to watch how the multiversal concept plays out in the season finale. The fans would also be excited to see how it differentiates from what we have seen in the recent MCU projects. Invincible Season 2, Episode 8 will drop on April 4, 2024, on Amazon Prime.
