The Johnny English films were the only projects where Atkinson got to play some sort of an action hero. However, in his own life, he got to be a real hero when he was faced with a life-and-death situation during a family holiday in Kenya. The comedian was able to avert a horrible outcome with his inspiring actions that day.

As stated by real.heroic.stories on Instagram, the plane which Atkinson and his family were traveling in got in trouble as the pilot fainted during their journey. Despite not having any particular flight training, Atkinson was miraculously able to keep the plane steady and airborne (developing a mentality of “we either crash or I learn fast”), while his wife tried to revive the unconscious pilot.

The actor took control of the plane and managed to keep it balanced until the pilot regained consciousness and safely landed the plane. The story is indeed an inspiring one and proves that the actor is more than just the comedian we see on screen. It is an extraordinary tale of heroism and bravery that will surely impress Atkinson’s fans.

Rowan Atkinson’s Mr. Bean has become a seminal character who has found love in every corner of the world. The character has spawned, his own live-action series, films, animated series, and books. Despite Mr. Bean bringing Atkinson worldwide fame and recognition, he does not find it pleasing to play him.

In an interview with Radio Times, the actor revealed that the weight of playing such a character who has become a pop culture icon is enormous. He finds it extremely stressful and exhausting to deliver on the expectations of audiences and hopes to not play him anymore (at least in live-action). Atkinson is developing an animated Mr. Bean film which he finds easier to do compared to live-action. The comedian said (via Variety),

I don’t much enjoy playing him. The weight of responsibility is not pleasant. I find it stressful and exhausting, and I look forward to the end of it. Having made an animated TV series, we’re now in the foothills of developing an animated movie for ‘Mr. Bean’ — it’s easier for me to perform the character vocally than visually.

It will be interesting to see what new quirky elements Atkinson incorporates for his new Mr. Bean film that people have not seen before. In 2022, Atkinson led the Netflix series Man Vs Bee which became a hit for the streamer. The actor will also be returning for a fourth entry in his hit Johnny English franchise.
