“I have always enjoyed this iteration of the Mr. Bean character and the particular freedoms he has in animated form. We can take him into space or down a tin mine, without me personally having to suffer the consequences. The animation process creatively is always fascinating and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into the new series very much.”
The series will be directed by Dave Osborne (known for (Supa Team 4, The 99 Unbound, and Pip Ahoy!). Along with Atkinson, the managing director Tom Beattie is also an executive producer and Arnold Widdowson is the main producer. It’s head writers are Ciaran Murtagh and Andrew Barnett Jones.
Can’t Forget Rowan Atkinson When Discussing About Mr. Bean
Nobody knew the show that was about to be called Mr. White would hit the jackpot in the years that followed. Yes, Mr. Bean was earlier named Mr. White. As the show creators kept suggesting vegetable names, it was then changed to Mr. Cauliflower.
Eventually, Mr. Bean was finalized on the name of a Bean. Later, 2 movies, an animated series, some books, and a video game were released using the same name. The first Mr. Bean film, titled Bean, grossed over $250 million worldwide, which shows its name and character’s appeal.
The pantomime character who is always seen in his trademark tweed jacket and a skinny red tie, does a range of unusual stuff that people have grown to love, over the years. Rowan Atkinson, the comedic mastermind, literally turned the character into a global icon by tickling the funny bones of audiences everywhere.
The man of many talents, Atkinson not only excelled in acting but in academics as well. He has a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and almost enrolled in a doctoral program at Oxford University.
But to pursue a career in acting, Atkinson had to drop out. We know that the legendary actor is barely seen attending any interviews and there’s a reason for that. It’s because he has slight difficulty pronouncing words that have the letters B or P. Still, he has made a $150 million fortune, with his primary source of wealth being his acting career.
How Much Does Rowan Atkinson Earn From The Mr. Bean Franchise?
Rowan Atkinson’s work in the Mr. Bean franchise alone (including a successful TV series, animated series, and two feature films), has earned him a pretty penny and a rumored $11 Million in royalties.
Atkinson earned a whopping $200,000 salary per episode for the Mr. Bean TV show. The OG TV series ran from 1990 to 1995 and aired in more than 180 countries. The show kept airing globally throughout the years. The actor still earns $14 million annually through the streaming of his shows. And a sum of it is from Mr. Bean, too. He also earns from the royalties that are associated with the sales of its toys and merchandise.
In 2012, there were rumors of him calling it quits. As he told in an interview with The Daily Telegraph (via Metro),
“The stuff that has been most commercially successful for me – basically quite physical, quite childish – I increasingly feel I’m going to do a lot less of.”
However, that turned out to be untrue. The 68-year-old is still going strong with his involvement with the character.
