It is no secret that 2023 was a challenging year for Marvel Studios. Both The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania underperformed at the box office; the former closed its theatrical run as the lowest-grossing MCU film. Marvel Studios hopes to kick off the new year with a fresh take on its TV shows with the release of Alaqua Cox’s Echo on January 9. The five-episode series is Marvel Studios’ first show to use the ‘Marvel Spotlight’ banner.

A Hawkeye spinoff, Echo follows Cox’s character Maya Lopez as she leaves New York City after shooting Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, who will also make a comeback. Along her journey, she will also encounter Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, aka Matt Murdock.

Speaking with CinemaBlend, the actress, who was deaf from birth, talked about her experience filming a fight scene with a “very nice” actor while expressing regret over their “brief” screen time.

Alaqua Cox’s Wished She Had More Screen Time With Charlie Cox’s Daredevil

The trailer for Marvel’s Echo featured a very brief altercation between Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez / Echo. However, fans have been begging to see more, and the actress also agrees with them in this regard. In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, she put forth her wish to have more scenes with the actor, noting that he was a “very nice guy in real life.

Also, the actress admitted to having limited time to prepare for this important fight scene, adding:

So that [Daredevil] fight scene, I think it was a week, if I do recall, it was probably up in the roundabouts of a week of filming like that. We only met maybe a few hours before that and learned the choreography. But he, I just, Charlie Cox, he’s such a nice guy. I wish I was able to work with him a little bit more. We only got a very brief time together, but he is very nice.”

Just one week? These two most certainly meet the criteria for expert status in that case! As Cox revealed, she did not really get to know her co-star until a few hours before they were supposed to start learning the moves for their fight scene. She said that although she enjoyed working with the Daredevil star, she did not get to spend as much time with him as she had hoped.

She probably wants to collaborate with him a little bit more in the future, and after the show, fans will undoubtedly be hoping that Marvel must bring it to life.

In the Marvel series Echo, Alaqua Cox—who is deaf and wears a prosthetic leg—did “a lot of stunt training”. She told ComicBook that she loved working with the stunt team and considered it to be her favorite aspect of the show. Meanwhile, the actress expressed her greatest pride in her extensive acting experience in Marion Dayre’s series during the interview with CinemaBlend:

“A lot of [the stunts] involved a lot of kicking and jabbing and stuff like that, but I did like when I was flying around like on the train and whatnot because the train scene was a lot of fun when I was on using the wires and everything. So anything that involved a wire was fun.”

Though Cox’s Echo is an anti-hero, the actress herself is a huge source of inspiration. Despite physical limitations, she has proven to the world that anything can be achieved through pure determination, a virtue that shines brightly in her on-screen character Maya Lopez as well. Though we can’t be sure when Daredevil and Echo will meet again in the TV series, we can be sure that Cox will continue to be the new favorite character of a lot of Marvel fans, a glimmer of the glory days of the MCU.
