Without a doubt, Hollywood star Margot Robbie is one the biggest actresses in the world right now. Thanks to her overnight fame from 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street, Robbie went on to bag bigger opportunities that have made her an experienced star today.
Robbie got married to producer Tom Ackerley in December 2016, however, the two had to skip their honeymoon because of 2017’s I, Tonya. While Robbie’s performance earned her an Academy Award nomination, it took away an important part of her life. The actress once recalled that there were times when they wondered what they were doing on the sets when they should be relaxing on a beach.
Margot Robbie delayed her honeymoon because of I, Tonya
In 2017, actress Margot Robbie revealed that she had to delay her honeymoon at the Toronto International Film Festival while promoting her film, I, Tonya. She got married to producer Tom Ackerley, who also produced I, Tonya, in December 2016 but due to their commitment to the movie, they delayed their honeymoon. The actress recalled (via ExtraTV),
“We did this film instead of our honeymoon. There were times we were sitting in a car parked in Atlanta freezing cold being like, ‘We should be on a beach right now. We should be on a honeymoon. What are we doing?!’ Following our dream.”
I, Tonya was a massive success. Robbie earned multiple prestigious awards and nominations for her role as the infamous figure skater Tonya Harding.
Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley started dating in 2014
While working in 2013’s Suite Française, Robbie met Tom Ackerley, who was the third assistant director. After Robbie’s success from 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street, she started dating Ackerley but kept their relationship hidden. In December 2016, the couple revealed that they got married in Coorabell, Byron Bay, Australia.
Robbie and Ackerley also co-founded the production company LuckyChap Entertainment in 2014, under which they have produced several films like Promising Young Woman (2020) and Barbie (2023). During her red carpet appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival, she revealed,
“Yeah, it’s not just my husband and I – we have 30 films in development and a TV department. The company is growing quickly.”
So far, things are looking good for the couple. With Barbie‘s success, it’s safe to say that it opened doors to bigger opportunities for them. They both are all set to serve as the producers of director Emerald Fennell’s 2023 psychological thriller, Saltburn.
Produced by Robbie and Ackerley’s company, Saltburn will hit the theatres on 17th November 2023.
