First renowned for their scathing criticism of each other, the pair became famous with immense commendation as their remarkable feud turned into a die-hard friendship. But as it turns out, the best friends have shared more than just the space on the big screens: In fact, they’ve shared something truly personal.
As it turns out, Stallone’s ex-wife, Brigitte Nielsen, had a short-lived yet ‘hot affair’ with Schwarzenegger before she went on to marry his then-rival, the Rambo boy.

During the time that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone’s bad blood lasted, though the pair never shared the screen, they did share a partner: Brigitte Nielsen. As per an excerpt from her memoir, You Only Get One Life shared by The Sun, the Cobra actress revealed how she had an ‘outrageous affair’ with the Terminator star during their film together, Red Sonja.
Sharing her perspective on Schwarzenegger, Nielsen wrote:
“I quickly discovered that away from the cameras, superstar Arnold [Schwarzenegger] was charming, kind, confident, and very down-to-earth though his body always seemed impossible — you couldn’t ignore it when we were running around half-n-ked in our battle gear! I can’t say that the look did much for me but he was an incredible sight.”
Continuing, the Mercenaries star explained how the pair got ‘pretty freaky’ during their film shoot, trying to make the most efficient use of their lone time together.
“Of course, it was soon apparent that the two of us had energy between us, and at length, it channeled itself into an outrageous affair. We both knew that when the film was finished, so were we. Time was limited so we didn’t hold back — we really made the most of it. The set lights would barely be off before we disappeared to do our thing. We wanted time to ourselves and we wanted to try everything. And when we were alone, that’s exactly what we did.”
However, this fling didn’t last long and the pair had to separate as soon as the shoot ended because Brigitte Nielsen was still married to Kasper Winding at the time and was only left with a ‘deep
sense of guilt’ following this passionate affair.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Agreed To Brigitte Nielsen’s Affair Confession
Though Brigitte Nielsen didn’t hold back while disclosing the intimacy she shared with ex-fling Arnold Schwarzenegger, the same wasn’t the case with the True Lies actor. Although he did admit to the ‘hot affair’ with the Rocky IV actress, he didn’t delve into the details and simply claimed that he knew it was short term only.
This was revealed through the Commando actor’s memoir back in 2012, Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story, as shared by ITVX. Not only this, but Schwarzenegger was also in a relationship with his now ex-wife Maria Shriver at the same time as his fling with Nielsen, and Stallone’s ex-wife was aware of his commitment.
However, while pleading guilty to Nielsen’s confessions, Arnold Schwarzenegger also claimed that his short-lived affair during the shoot of Red Sonja only brought him to the realization that the person he truly wanted to spend the rest of his life with was Shriver. As for Brigitte Nielsen: she went on to tie the knot with Sylvester Stallone, only to end it 2 years later and speak nothing about it thanks to their prenuptial agreement.
