Walton Goggins is an extremely well-known and respected actor. While he has been making headlines recently through his work in Fallout, other iconic works have helped him become the star that he is today. One of the best examples is his hit series, Justified, which ran for six seasons and became very critically acclaimed.

In the hit series, the actor played the role of Boyd Crowder, alongside Timothy Olyphant’s Raylan Givens. The pair naturally became very close through the filming of the series. However, by the end of the shooting, it would seem that there was a very apparent drift between them, and the reason for it is quite interesting.

When Is Method Acting Too Much?

The obsessive artist is a concept often talked about. Seen in cinema through works like Black Swan, Whiplash, and I, Tonya, it has been captured in several mediums; however, its basis comes from reality. Some of the greatest in their fields have talked about their talent consuming every aspect of their lives, and they would not have it any other way. However, often, the consumption can turn into poison that muddles the good.

Walton Goggins recently gave an interview with The Independent, where he talked about his experience working on Justified with co-star and friend Timothy Olyphant. By the end of the series, the two had started to notice some distance between each other. Not because of any personal matters, but because of the characters they were playing.

“We had a tough time towards the end of Justified,” Goggins told. “We were so deep into these people we were playing, and they were so polar opposite at this point in the story… I think we were both obsessed with our own points of view, just carrying the weight of this conflict.”

It would seem that by the end of the series, both actors were so caught up in the characters that they were playing that they were unable to separate them from their own reality.

They were more interested in what their characters would do and how different they were from each other than what lay in the real world, which caused a drift between them.

Walton Goggins and Timothy Olyphant have Since Reconciled

Walton Goggins then went on to state that these conflicts between him and Timothy Olyphant were only temporary. Since Justified ended its run in 2015, the pair have had almost 10 years to move past the rough patch. It would seem that both actors are closer than ever, with the Fallout star even referring to Olyphant as his ‘brother’.

“I think we just needed to separate, like brothers.” said Goggins “I respect and love him greatly, and I feel respected and loved by him greatly. We just needed to take a break in order to come back together,”

As Goggins put it, the two only needed time to come out of the mental states of the roles they were playing and focus on their relationships with each other, not their characters. This helped them make amends and become as close as they were before.

Justified is available for streaming on Hulu and Fallout is available on Prime Video.
