The reason being that the ‘runaway bride’ situation actually took place way before in Roberts’ life. It was the year 1991 and the actress was all set to marry her partner of less than a year Kiefer Sutherland.

The two met each other on the set of Flatliners and fell in love. After a brief romance, they planned to get married. However, just days into their relationship, Sutherland was rumored to have cheated on Roberts with a stripper. He now seems to understand why the actress took such a drastic yet devastating decision and even has reconnected with his best friend Jason Patric. In an interview, Sutherland stated,

“I think she had courage. It wasn’t what she wanted to do in the end. And I think it took a lot of courage, in amongst all of that other stuff, to be able to say, ‘I can’t do this.'”

Adding one he mentioned how they were very much in love during their brief romance,

“We were both young, and we were both very much in love, we had decided that we wanted to get married, but then this other thing kind of took over. She was arguably the most famous woman in the world, and this wedding that was supposed to be something between the two of us, became something so big.”

Letting bygones be bygones, both Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland are in happy relationships with their respective partners.
