Ewan McGregor has had a varied career which includes starring in big franchise blockbusters and character-driven dramas. Audiences most popularly know him as Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Star Wars prequel trilogy, a role he reprised in the modern Star Wars miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi in 2022.
He has also starred in other acclaimed films such as the two Trainspotting films, Big Fish, Moulin Rouge! and many others. Now, the actor is starring opposite Anne Hathaway in a new film with an intriguing premise film that will surely excite fans.
Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway Starring in New Mystery Adventure Film
It has been quite a while since Ewan McGregor starred in a big studio film. The actor has been starring in some small indie drams recently including Raymond and Ray and Bleeding Love. The last studio film he did was 2020’s Birds of Prey. Now, the actor is set to return in a big-budget adventure film for Warner Bros.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the yet-untitled film will pair McGregor alongside Anne Hathaway and is described as a family adventure film that involves dinosaurs. The two actors are set to play parents in the film with the kid roles yet to be cast. Fans expressed their excitement about the project on X. Here are some of the reactions,

This is exciting news and comes in the wake of the new Jurassic World film now being in potential trouble. Unlike the Jurassic World film which now does not have a director after announcing a release date, McGregor’s film will be directed by David Robert Mitchell who directed the 2014 hit horror film It Follows. The new film is expected to start shooting in the coming months.
Ewan McGregor was Initially Hesitant To Play Obi-Wan Kenobi
Playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars universe catapulted Ewan McGregor‘s career and it became the most recognizable role in his career. However, the actor did not gravitate to the character initially and did not think it was something that he could pull off. McGregor told Variety about his hesitation in taking up the role.
The actor claimed that he did not believe he should star in a big-budget studio film at the time and was more comfortable doing Danny Boyle’s smaller films like Trainspotting and The Beach (he was supposed to play the lead at one time). He also admitted to the dismal reception to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and the weird feeling of starring in two other films after knowing the hatred from fans. He said,
“It wasn’t a done deal for me. I didn’t think it was at all who I was. I believed, at that point, I was a Danny Boyle actor. ‘The Beach’ was more important and I meant it, it wasn’t flippant. I did ask a lot of people for advice.”
“I am happy that I am this character for a lot of people, but when these films came out, they were so disliked. That was hard. The first one was panned and we still had to make another two! It was weird to be in a film that was hammered.”
In the same interview, McGregor also expressed his happiness in dong the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and desires to return in a second season. For now, there is no official word about the same. As of 2024, McGregor has the Paramount+ series A Gentleman in Moscow which will start streaming from March 29, 2024.
