DC Studio’s latest film and the first under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, Blue Beetle is set to release soon. A film that is so much more than just a superhero film, it touches upon the crucial subjects of equal representation and opportunity. The film’s director Angel Manuel Soto, a budding Latino filmmaker is determined to make the film a success.
Blue Beetle features the first Latino superhero or Warner Bros. Despite the interesting storyline, fans haven’t been too kind to the film and have been calling it DC’s ‘Spider-man’ clone.
Blue Beetle Director Determined To Make Film A Success
Angel Manuel Soto, a Puerto Rican, is an unwavering optimist. Despite his tumultuous journey to Hollywood and eventually to the DC studio, he is fueled to make the Blue Beetle a success. Even with ongoing strikes in Hollywood, Soto believes in the power of community. Now with his resilience and natural talent, he has brought forth WB’s first Latino superhero in the form of Jaime Reyes. Despite the opposition, Solo still hopes to make it through,
“They tell us about this ‘glass ceiling’ and then tell us we should feel complacent and be grateful that we’ve even reached that ceiling. Every time someone like us excels, it’s a big surprise. We always knew we could do that. I believe in the power of community, and I’m not a fatalist. I’m a relentless optimist.”
Amidst all the challenges that Latinos have faced in Hollywood, Blue Beetle boasts a Latino cast, determined to break all stereotypes and bring forth a profound change.
“We want the movie to succeed, but I also want my actors and writers to be treated as they should. If that happens, we’ll have more stories like this. Things that are often deemed impossible are not.”
In spite of Soto’s unyielding optimism, fans have not been too keen for the film to succeed.
