During his SAG Award acceptance speech, Joaquin Phoenix recalled that he would always be second to some exceptional talents in the industry, he continued to add that it was mostly the Hollywood heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio.

“There would always be like two other guys that I was up against, and we’d always lose to this one kid. No actor would ever say his name, like every casting director would say: [whispering] ‘It’s Leonardo, it’s Leonardo.’.

He went on to add that he has looked up to the actor and his work thought-out his days in the industry.

You’ve been an inspiration for over 25 years to me and so many people — I thank you very, very, very much. You never turn in a bad performance. It’s infuriating. I wish you would, just one time, just suck once, OK?”

Well, it is quite true that DiCaprio is a generational talent, it is also true that Phoenix’s recent performance has awarded him with great praise, worthy of standing next to his inspiration.
