Suits originally began airing in 2011, but it truly reached new heights since being added to Netflix earlier this year. Meghan Markle’s character, Rachel Zane, is one of the most popular characters in the drama series.

But Markle had to quit the show following her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. Even before leaving the series, show creator Aaron Kosh wasn’t happy with the lack of freedom for Markle’s character in Suits.
Meghan Markle Dating Prince Harry was Bittersweet for Suits Creator
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry started dating in late April or early May 2016. At the time, Markle was a pivotal actor in Suits.
Speaking about Markle dating Harry in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kosh explained how it made him giddy and, at times, irritated.
Yeah! I mean, your initial reaction is, like, ‘We’re dating a prince!’ (Laughs.) But the security and all that stuff, we shot in Toronto and the writers room was in L.A., so other people were dealing with that. I will say, and I think Harry put this in the book, because I heard people talking about it — [the royal family] weighed in on some stuff. Not many things, by the way, but a few things that we wanted to do and couldn’t do, and it was a little irritating.

The royal family somewhat took away Kosh’s creative freedom. They even altered a few dialogues for the Duchess of Sussex, which, of course, didn’t sit well with Kosh.
Aaron Kosh Lists an Example Of How The Royal Family Forced him to Change Meghan Markle’s Dialogues on Suits
In the same interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Aaron Kosh shed light on how the royal family used to somehow access the script of the show and suggest altered dialogues of Markle.
So, in the episode, Mike and Rachel [Markle’s character] were going to have a thing, and as a nod to my in-laws, we were going to have her say, “My family would say poppycock.” And the royal family did not want her saying the word. They didn’t want to put the word “poppycock” in her mouth. I presume because they didn’t want people cutting things together or her saying “co*k.” So, we had to change it to “bullsh*t” instead of “poppycock,” and I did not like it because I’d told my in-laws that [poppycock] was going to be in the show. There were maybe one or two more things, but I can’t remember.

Considering the differences between Kosh and the royal family, it seemed too much to handle for Markle.
She ultimately quit the show after the seventh season and hasn’t returned to acting ever since. The only exception being her appearance on Netflix’s Harry & Meghan documentary.
