There was a time when many in the old DCEU considered Ben Affleck a wrong choice to play the role of Bruce Wayne. And this belief only solidified when DC Films released The Batman created by Matt Reeves, where Robert Pattinson played the role of the titular vigilante to perfection. The way the movie portrayed the caped crusader was one of the reasons why it performed tremendously at the box office.

With such an outstanding performance and the audience’s reception, the overhaul of the newly-formed DCU put the film and the storyline at a pivotal point within its universe. CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have confirmed that Pattinson’s Batman will remain and play an important role in the future. And to top it off, Matt Reeves has also shared some important updates about the upcoming sequel to the original film.

The thing that set The Batman apart from the previous iterations of the bat vigilante was director Matt Reeves’ take on the character of Bruce Wayne. In the film, Robert Pattinson’s version was shown as a broken man with nothing but vengeance wrapped in a dirty cloth of justice to serve the criminal underworld of Gotham City. Giving the audience a change of perspective by diverting from the many versions of Bruce that showed him as another playboy billionaire was just the thing that the audiences needed to see.

And after the success of the original movie, Reeves received a contract to work on several projects in the future. But after James Gunn and Peter Safran assumed the roles of Co-CEO of DC Films, the contract’s agreement looked shaky. But it seems like Gunn already had The Batman in consideration for the future of the DCU after the overhaul, as Reeves has recently revealed that he has already begun the work on the sequel of the film, even reaching deep into it!

During an interview with Collider, the Planet Of The Apes director said:

“I’m not going to answer that question, but we are working on a movie. I’ll put it to you that way. We’re deep in it and my partner and I are writing, Mattson [Tomlin] and I are writing, and it’s really exciting, and I’m really excited about what we’re doing.”

Now that it has been confirmed that Robert Pattinson would become the core team of the DCU going forward, fans can rest assured that we will receive yet another cinematic masterpiece from the bat vigilante soon.

At the end of the events in the first movie, we saw the destruction of Gotham City and The Riddler having the last laugh, with a subtle easter egg of The Joker at the very end of the runtime. Thus, many are led to believe that Robert Pattinson’s next outing as the caped crusader would lead him straight to his arch nemesis, which will in turn, put him through more challenges and situations that will push him beyond the breaking point.
