The Last of Us is hailed as the greatest live-action video game adaptation, and rightly so. The first season was watched, and loved, by millions worldwide so it is no surprise that the second season is so eagerly anticipated.
One stumbling block is the ongoing Writers Guild Strike which has shut down most of the Hollywood studios. However, it looks like, after 146 days of strike action, this may be about to change.
Latest on Season 2 of The Last of Us
As noted in a recent article in The Guardian, after 5 days of talks it looks like a ‘tentative agreement’ has been reached with studios, writers unions and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. However, it should be noted that the specific details of this agreement are still to be approved in a formal format.
So if this agreement is approved then realistically how soon could it be before we see production start again? Unfortunately, it is not so straightforward.
Even if the WAG Strike does conclude, there is still the strike action with the Screen Actors Guild, and there would still be the time writers would need for scripts. It may be late 2024, even 2025 before we get that second season of The Last of Us that we are crying out for.

It is not all doom and gloom for fans, as the rumors regarding The Last of Us 3 continue to circulate. The next instalment from Naughty Dog is said to be currently in development, although this is stringently denied by Co-President Neil Druckmann.
But could the key to this be in a mysterious post on Instagram by prominent actress Shannon Woodward? The character who voiced the character of Dina in The Last of Us 2 posted on the Social Media platform that she was in the studio for a ‘top secret video game’, which was followed by 3 emojis.
Could this be a subtle reference to the third instalment of the popular game? It would certainly seem that way. And you only have to look on Social media to see there have been various ‘unconfirmed’ leaks popping up about the game.
According to leaker DanielRPK, part of the plot in the third game will focus on a group of scavengers who have banded together in a Victorian House, and another leaker @ViewerAnon states that Ellie will be ‘at least as important in LAST OF US PART III as she was in PART II’ but we note that this post has since been removed.
