Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet Were Scared to Collaborate Again After the Success Of Titanic

After a certain 1997 movie took the actors Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio to great heights of fame and success, the hit duo was not seen on screen together until 2008 for the Sam Mendes movie Revolutionary Road. Thus, while promoting their movie, the iconic pair were bombarded with questions pestering them to explain why it took them so long to collaborate again. Thus, in a chat with Entertainment Weekly, both DiCaprio and Winslet set the record straight once and for all.

The Shutter Island actor revealed there were two primary reasons that prevented them from coming together on the big screen after the 1997 hit, the first being the endless scrutiny and judgment about their personal relationship with each other. And secondly, the pair were certain nothing in the world could top what Titanic did for them. Thus they both avoided love stories at all costs. Therefore as soon as the two were offered a project other than a love story, they both jumped on it. DiCaprio said,

“Over the years, I would find myself stopping and saying, ‘I don’t know if we should do this again—And then I’d think, ‘What are you, an idiot? Why wouldn’t I want to work with the best actress of her generation? Am I going to be prejudiced against a project just because Kate’s in it?’ I think we both had been actively looking for something else to do together, but we fundamentally knew that we couldn’t tread on any sort of similar territory.”

But when the two finally came together in Revolutionary Road, they yet again proved why the world deemed them the perfect couple, to begin with.

“I think the reason that friendship works is because there was never any romantic thing. It’s so disappointing for people to hear that, because in the soap opera of the Kate and Leo story we fell in love at first sight and had a million snogs, but actually, we never did. He always saw me as one of the boys. I’ve never really been a girly-girl,”

According to her, although the two never were lovers the love, respect, and unconditional support, they both have for each other makes their friendship stronger than any other relationship they have in their life.
