Resident Evil Village, the seventh main title in the franchise came out in 2021, and the the game’s DLC, Shadows of Rose was thought to have ended the Winters family storyline. Ryan, better known as Dusk Golem, has previously provided several accurate leaks in the past about the Resident Evil franchise. Recently, he sat down with fellow leaker The Snitch’s Discord server and clarified one of his previous statements with regard to the next title in the Resident Evil franchise. Both of them were of the similar opinion that the next title would not be a direct sequel to Resident Evil 8, which was a sequel to Resident Evil 7.

One of the two major updates related to Resident Evil 9 was that the title has been under development since 2021 which is the longest in the franchise, and also being developed with the highest budget used in the franchise. This is also bound to make Resident Evil 9 the biggest title in the franchise yet, which is also not expected to be released anytime before 2025.

Resident Evil 8 and the as of yet unannounced Resident Evil 9 were both said to be planned together, to close out the storyline of the series. Golem mentioned that the DLC Shadows of Rose was not planned earlier and the storyline doesn’t take away anything from what Resident Evil 9 was planned to bring back in 2018.

Resident Evil 9 Could End the Current Story and Start a New Story

Leaker Dusk Golem stated Resident Evil 9 could take the franchise in a new direction.

The other point made by Golem was that Capcom could consider making Resident Evil 9 as a final chapter to the current story arc. The game could also take the franchise in new directions and start a whole new story for future titles.

Earlier this year, Capcom released a remake of Resident Evil 4, which received mixed reviews by both critics and fans. The title was released back in March this year, and at the time of writing, the game has a critic’s score of 93 and a fan rating of close to 8. The remake is also getting a free DLC for PlayStation VR2, titled Resident Evil 4 VR Mode, which is scheduled to arrive this winter.

Fans have been quite optimistic about what’s to come in the future titles, with one fan commenting on the Reddit post stating how the character of Rose could return with another familiar face for a “final blowout story” and that they’re excited for Resident Evil 9 regardless of how it goes.

Another fan commented how Rose could team up with Chris Redfield in the next title, as yet another user replied by saying there is still the “plot point about the BSAA using bioweapons and how Chris deals with that.”

Regardless of how the story continues in the franchise, or if the next title starts a brand new story by itself, fans seem to be waiting for the next Resident Evil game with bated breath.
