Therefore, when Tom Hanks appeared to be losing his cool at the Cannes Film Festival, people were confused. At the 76th Cannes Film Festival, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson stepped out on the red carpet for a screening of Asteroid City, Wes Anderson’s upcoming flick starring Hanks. Twinning in their black attires, Hanks and Wilson were photographed going off on a staff member at the Festival. Or so it seemed.

What was supposed to be a rather nonchalant moment was twisted and turned around by media outlets. Posting the photos without getting to the story, a lot of tabloids labeled the images as the couple losing their mind as they were seen pointing their fingers at someone.

One such article was written by The Daily Mail with the title,

“Raving Private Ryan! Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson remonstrate with a red carpet staffer as they attend the 76th Cannes Film Festival premiere of Asteroid City.”

Wilson uploaded a screenshot of this exact article to her Instagram story as she set the record straight. She captioned the post,

“This is called I can’t hear you. People are screaming. What did you say? Where are we supposed to go? But that doesn’t sell stories! Nice try. Go see Asteroid City!”

And there you have it. The moment which was making headlines turned out to be nothing more than the couple asking for directions, trying to be heard over the loud background.

The Time When Tom Hanks Actually Got Angry

While the Cannes story was nothing but a false alarm, Hanks has lost his cool before. In 2022, a video was going viral where the Forrest Gump actor was seen yelling at some fans. As the couple was leaving a restaurant in New York, they were approached by a group of fans excited to meet their favorite actor. While Hanks appeared to be in a good mood initially, things escalated when the group caused Wilson to nearly trip.

Hanks came to his wife’s rescue and told the fans to back off and he didn’t feel the need to show off his niceness at that moment. He exclaimed, “That is my wife, back the f**k off. Knocking over my wife!” It looks like Hanks does not mind keeping his nice guy reputation aside when it comes to defending his wife, to whom he has been married for thirty-five years.
