Josh Radnor kept millions of viewers on their toes for nine years as Ted Mosby, a goofy architect-turned-professor, who recounts to his children the events that led him to meet their mother.
How I Met Your Mother is considered one of the best sitcoms of all time, and although the show also chronicled the journeys of other ‘gang’ members: Lily, Marshall, Robin, and Barney, it won’t be far-fetched to say Ted was the anchor of the group as well as the show itself.
As such, it’s certainly intriguing that the lead actor has not been as active in Hollywood as one would expect after the CBS hit wrapped.
What Happened to Josh Radnor After How I Met Your Mother Ended
Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky) and Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson) have both enjoyed a pretty prolific run in the industry since 2014, the year when Ted Mosby finally realizes that he met the love of his life in the pilot episode itself.
However, Josh Radnor has only bagged a handful of prominent roles in the last decade. The biggest reason for his absence (or exit for that matter) from Hollywood ironically could be the status his character achieved due to the success of How I Met Your Mother. Some characters get so popular that it’s more or less impossible for actors to get away from their shadows.
The biggest case in point: Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe. For viewers (and as a result directors) such actors are so strongly attached to their iconic on-screen avatars that it becomes tricky to visualize them as someone else.
The underwhelming reception his movies The Seeker (2016) and Social Animals (2018) received didn’t help his case either. The 49-year-old recently made the headlines with his supporting role as Adam Epstein in the television series Fleishman Is in Trouble (2022). However, all things considered, it’s tough to see him become the leading man of a high-profile project anytime soon.
Josh Radnor Has Explored Directing, Writing and Singing
Radnor has also tried his hands at directing and writing, albeit to very limited success. His last three directing gigs have all been music videos. He has written and directed two feature films: Happythankyoumoreplease (2010) and Liberal Arts (2012).
The actor’s directorial debut was underwhelming, but Liberal Arts, which also featured Elizabeth Olsen as fascinating college student Zibby, did manage to earn a few film festival award nominations. As such, this front of Hollywood might be something to keep an eye on if you are a die-hard Radnor fan.
Moreover, the multi-talented star has also dabbled his toes in music. Last year, he released a new album, titled Eulogy: Volume I. It seems Radnor got more into music after a painful breakup that inspired him to take a road trip with his dog, Nelson, and a guitar (via NPR).

What’s Going On in Josh Radnor’s Personal Life
Since we are on the subject of love and break-up, Radnor fans would be happy to learn that their Ted has finally found his wife. Recently, he tied the knot to Jordana Jacobs in New York.
The pair dated for nearly two years before deciding to get married during a “snowy bliss-filled” weekend. They met at a sound meditation retreat in February 2022.
Radnor revealed in an interview with The New York Times that as soon as he started chatting with Jacobs, he knew he had found his special one. The voice inside his head supposedly said, “That’s her. That’s your woman.”
Jacobs, 36, is a clinical psychologist with a private practice in Brooklyn.
