How I Met Your Mother is back in the headlines, not because of another shoddy spin-off (*cough, cough* How I Met Your Father) but rather because of the wedding of Josh Radnor, who portrayed Ted Mosby in the sitcom.
The popular show recounts the journey Ted and his four best friends take leading up to his meeting with the mother of his two kids. For nine seasons, millions of fans were invested in the lives of the architect-turned-professor and his friends Lily, Marshall, Robin, and Barney.
Now that Radnor has found his soulmate in real life as well, it’s only fair to also look at the behind-the-scenes lives of the whole group nearly a decade after the sitcom ended.
Josh Radnor – Ted Mosby
Josh Radnor, 49, tied the knot with Jordana Jacobs two weeks ago after dating the 36-year-old clinical psychologist for nearly two years.
As far as his professional life is concerned, much like Ted, Radnor also seems restless and has dabbled his toes in writing, directing, and music. Late in 2023, the singer released a new album, titled Eulogy: Volume I.
His most talked-about acting gig in recent years came in 2022 when he portrayed Adam Epstein in the limited series Fleishman Is in Trouble.
Cobie Smulders – Robin Scherbatsky
Cobie Smulders portrayed the most badass character in the sitcom, Robin Scherbatsky, who joins the gang after an awkward date with Ted.
The Canadian-American actress then went on to enjoy success playing another bold character in the MCU. She portrayed the former Commander and Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Maria Hill, in several movies, including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
The 41-year-old most recently voiced Maria in the Disney+ series What If…?
Neil Patrick Harris – Barney Stinson
The serial playboy of HIMYM has perhaps enjoyed the most prolific run in Hollywood among the main cast members. After the end of the sitcom, Neil Patrick Harris immediately starred in high-profile movies like A Million Ways to Die in the West and Gone Girl.
Most notably, he led three seasons of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events as Count Olaf from 2017 to 2019. Most recently he appeared in BBC’s iconic series Doctor Who as The Toymaker.
This year, Harris will celebrate his 10th marriage anniversary with David Burtka, with whom he shares twins Harper and Gideon.
Alyson Hannigan – Lily Aldrin
The adorable personality of kind-hearted Lily Aldrin reflected in Alyson Hannigan’s stints as the host of shows Girl Scout Cookie Championship and Penn & Teller: Fool Us after 2014. She also lent her voice for more than 50 episodes of the children’s animated series, Fancy Nancy, wherein she played Claire Clancy, the mother of Nancy.
Her 2003 marriage with Alexis Denisof is still going strong as the pair celebrated their 20th anniversary last year. Among die-hard HIMYM fans, Denisof is popular for his recurring role of Sandy Rivers, a news anchor who worked alongside Robin.
Jason Segel – Marshall Eriksen
Jason Segel’s peak spell in Hollywood coincided with his time at HIMYM, as he featured in several comedies, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall and The Muppets between 2005 and 2014.
Since 2014, regular roles in high-profile movies and series have come far and few for Segel. However, 2023 seemed like a comeback year for the 44-year-old, who featured in the series Shrinking and HBO Max’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. He also voiced Vector in the short film Mooned and Despicable Me.
Segel split with his longtime girlfriend Alexis Mixter in 2021. The actor and the artist kept their relationship, which began in December of 2013, away from the spotlight. Accordingly, it remains unclear why they split.
