James Gunn Won’t Let Robert Pattinson’s The Batman 2 Die!
Ever since James Gunn was announced as the new DC head, fans of Matt Reeves‘ The Batman were worried that the sequel to the Robert Pattinson-starrer movie would be canceled just like the Snydercut films. Fortunately, the film was announced as part of DC Elsewhere projects.
Yet, despite its announcement, there haven’t been many updates so far, stirring rumors of its cancelation. Its release date being pushed back from a 2025 release date to 2026, due to the Hollywood strikes has also caused fans to worry.
However, James Gunn has been consistently debunking such rumors during his usual online interactions with fans. While he previously shot down the rumors of The Batman II having several villains (via Cultural Crave), he recently debunked the rumors of the sequel’s cancelation when asked by a fan.
When Matt thinks it’s ready!
Stated Gunn when asked by a fan when the script for the movie will be finished (via DC Film News). After Gunn clarified his side of the story, it must be noted that the movie being delayed is probably because of Matt Reeves’ packed schedule. Busy with several projects, including Prime Video’s Caped Crusader animated series, it is no wonder Reeves is taking his time to develop a script worthy of being The Batman’s sequel.
When Will Matt Reeves’ The Batman II Start Shooting?
Matt Reeves has a pretty packed schedule and one look at his Wikipedia page will reveal why. Also busy with the upcoming The Penguin series, it is no wonder he hasn’t gotten around to finishing the script for The Batman II and why the film delay is a good thing.
Delayed to October 2, 2026, a recent report by The Insneider suggests that production is expected to begin in April 2025. This will not only give Reeves enough time to wrap up his other projects but also finish up the script for the film. An April production date will also allow the team to wrap up filming before its release date of 2026, preventing any further delays.
A franchise with great potential, the recent clarification by James Gunn proves he has faith in Matt Reeves’ vision and that The Batman director still has major control over his ‘Batman‘ universe, something that fans have been worried about. As The Batman II is not canceled and Robert Pattinson will once again don the Batsuit, fans can hardly wait to see what Reeves has been cooking.
The Batman Part II will be in theatres on October 2, 2026.
