Mark Wahlberg would prefer to lead by example rather than just talk about the Catholic faith when it comes to educating his four children about it. The Father Stu actor admitted on TODAY that he would never “force” his children with wife Rhea Durham to inherit his strong religious beliefs:
“They think dad’s crazy, and he’s boring. But even with my faith, I don’t force it on them. But they know that dad can’t start the day without being in prayer, can’t start the day without reading my Scripture or going to Mass.”
Additionally, Wahlberg aspired to combine his acting career with his faith. The Daddy’s Home actor revealed his new professional ambition to produce more substantial content for his audience. He told Entertainment Tonight:
“I feel like this is starting a new chapter for me in that, now, doing things like this –– real substance –– can help people. I definitely want to focus on making more. I wouldn’t say necessarily just faith-based content but things that will help people.”
Being optimistic is admirable. Wahlberg also discussed how optimism has changed and grown stronger over time. It was not something he had to learn, he told Risen Magazine, adding that he generally has an optimistic outlook on life.
“Obviously we live in the real world and bad things happen. But I remember the overall theme – having a bigger picture [than just a singular viewpoint], and having my faith, deeply rooted in Catholicism and the Lord.”
Wahlberg’s father was Swedish and Irish, and his mother was of Irish, English, and French Canadian ancestry. On the work front, he will next be seen in Arthur the King, an upcoming adventure film directed by Simon Cellan Jones.
