Developers of the Wolfenstein series, MachineGames, were said to be developing a new Indiana Jones with Bethesda over two years ago. The announcement was met with a lot of hype, as Indiana Jones is a fan-favorite character.

No updates have followed ever since the announcement, when it was mentioned the title would be created in partnership with LucasFilms. The game was anticipated to come either next year or by 2025, but since there have been no updates by the developers, it’s likely not coming out any time soon. The developers are also said to be working on a new Wolfenstein title, also without an expected release date as of now.

What’s Known So Far About the Indiana Jones Game

The Indiana Jones game teaser by Bethesda back in 2021 revealed very little about what to expect.

In an interview with GQ in August, Bethesda Director, Todd Howard, sat down to speak about Starfield, before the title’s release. While speaking about what to expect from Starfield, Howard also touched upon the next big title from Bethesda, which was revealed to be a bucket list item for him. It was the first time the game was discussed after the initial reveal by Bethesda about the whole project.

The game was said to be based on “Nazi-killing” and Howard mentioned the developers, MachineGames, had so far done a “great job“. The game was initially considered a multi-platform title before Microsoft’s acquisition. However, following the FTC trial, Bethesda’s Head of Global Publishing confirmed that the Indiana Jones game being developed by MachineGames will be an Xbox and PC exclusive, much like Starfield and Redfall before that.

It was also leaked earlier this year that the Indiana Jones game is said to be both first-person and third-person throughout the game, with some sections of the game exclusive to one of the two modes. There’s no clarity on the percentage each of the two modes will be played out in the game.

From Reddit discussions and X posts where fans discussed what’s been leaked and revealed so far about the untitled Indiana Jones game, the community is sure to welcome the title with open arms regardless if it’s a first or third-person game.

Xbox Is Planning to Make 2024 a Big Year

The Indiana Jones game will likely be a massive Day One addition to Xbox Game Pass.
The Indiana Jones game will likely be a massive day one addition to Xbox Game Pass.

Xbox is already expecting a massive 2024 with Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Obsidian’s Avowed, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, a side-scroller title Towerborne along with a story expansion, and a major first set of updates to Starfield also planned for 2024.

As for non-exclusives coming to the console, there are a ton of titles releasing on the console that are also coming next year. Some of the highly anticipated titles include Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Tekken 8, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth to name a few that are coming next month.

There’s also Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Persona 3 Reload, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake, coming in February. Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Destiny 2: The Final Shape are among the titles that are coming later in the year.

As a result, Xbox Game Pass will also gain a lot of these titles either on day one or later in the year. A bunch of titles are already confirmed to be coming to Game Pass. Some of these include the aforementioned titles and Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, Cities: Skylines 2 among others.

Among the uncovered documents from the FTC trial, there were mentions of upcoming titles from Bethesda. The untitled Indiana Jones game was listed as part of a 2022 financial year, which didn’t materialize. The title was pushed back to be included in the 2023 plans by Bethesda, but we now know that has not worked out either, since there has been no official update all year by developers, MachineGames.

If the Indiana Jones title does get released by Q4 of next year, it will cap off another successful year of exclusives for Xbox. For now, the gaming community will have to continue waiting until official announcements and updates start coming out next year or beyond.
