As the end of 2010 neared, the world was introduced to yet another iteration of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective in the superhit BBC series Sherlock. And now, the co-creator of the show, Mark Gatiss is gearing up for another TV film for the broadcasting company, with Kit Harington playing the main protagonist in the upcoming project.
On top of being a film project by the man who reincarnated the consulting detective in the modern age, the story itself will also be adapted from the tales of Conan Doyle, and this time, it will be a good old horror story. Created as part of BBC’s A Ghost Story for Christmas series, the project is all set to feature a Mummy from ancient Egypt.
Kit Harington Joins Hands With Sherlock Co-Creator Mark Gatiss For Their Upcoming Project
For almost a decade, everyone from all over the globe was enamored by the absolutely amazing creation that Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat brought to TV with their detective thriller series Sherlock. And now, it seems like Gatiss is all set to take on another project with another story created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
This time, the story that is expected to be adapted is Lot No. 249, which will feature Kit Harington in the lead.

In a recent report by Deadline, The League of Gentlemen star will again lend his writing prowess to the British Broadcasting Corporation for their annual TV series A Ghost Story for Christmas. This is an anthology of adapted stories that are telecasted every year during the Holiday season, which are all made to give the audience a good fright.
This time, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s horror story Lot No. 249 is set to make its appearance on the screen with the Game of Thrones star being the main lead. The other star that has been hinted for the project is Freddie Fox popular for his role as King Louis XIII in the iconic The Three Musketeers.
The film is set to be featured around Christmas and will be televised on BBC Channel Two. The project is being produced by Adorable Media, the company that has worked with Gatiss on several occasions in the past as well.
Therefore, while we may not know whether we will be getting more of Sherlock Holmes in the near future or not, even when fans of Henry Cavill are asking Netflix to create an Enola Holmes spin-off featuring the star as Sherlock, we can be assured to be frightened with Gatiss’ take on Conan Doyle’s tale.

What Is Lot No. 249 About?
Originally published in 1892 in Harper’s Magazine and written by legendary author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Lot No. 249 is a short Gothic Horror story that gave rise to the now-iconic malevolent Mummy trope in pop culture and media.
The short story tells the tale of Abercrombie Smith, a bright and upcoming student at the prestigious Oxford University. One day, his neighbor and fellow student Edward Bellingham faints, and Smith, being a medical student, is called to his room. Being an Egyptologist, Bellingham has a lot of artifacts, including an ancient Mummy. Smith later finds out that Bellingham might be using the mystical powers of the dead to commit crimes in his stead.
