Helldivers 2 is no doubt the center of everyone’s attraction at the moment. Those who are playing it know why it’s so popular, and those who are not playing it are curious about this game. But there’s no doubt that this game is one of the most popular titles in recent times. And this popularity might even be a result of its incredible narrative.

This game actually has a very dynamic narrative that keeps on changing. Thanks to that narrative, Helldivers 2 has a story that will change at the least expected moments, and fans will be left in shock. This has already happened once, and it will happen again. And all this is thanks to just one guy, Helldivers 2’s game master.

The narrative in an online liver service title is very crucial. It’s important for these games to have a story that is engaging enough that players keep coming back to it. Helldivers 2 actually has this kind of story; its widespread galactic war actually seems to be getting worse by the hour.

And it was revealed to everyone’s surprise a while ago that this narrative was due to one small detail. Instead of relying on an in-engine narrative director like other games do, Helldivers 2 has a living and breathing narrative director. He continuously keeps on working to keep things going in this title.

This chaotic third-person co-op game pits players against factions of robots and dangerously powerful insects. Those enemies would constantly be attacking several locations that players had to either protect or take back from the enemy. And thanks to this game master, this task is better said than done.

As players would always be struggling, for one, it would not be very easy for them to get their hands on those locations. And once they do, there’s always a chance that the enemy forces can retaliate and take it back as they did Malevelon Creek. This can be even more disheartening.

Helldivers 2's opening intro seems to be enough to get players excited about the game.
A constantly changing world keeps Helldivers 2 an engaging experience for players.

To combat such events, developer Arrowhead Game Studios has decided to add a bunch of new stuff to the game. In the coming days, players would be able to use mechs and even deploy NPC Helldivers in the field, who would support the players in an attempt to save the galaxy.

All this conflict and increasing risk is thanks to just one guy. His name is Joel, and he is the game master for Helldivers 2. This was mentioned by Arrow Head Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt recently; he said, “We have an actual person [Joel] with the job title of Game Master. We have a lot of systems built into the game where the Game Master has a lot of control over the play experience. It’s something that we’re continuously evolving based on what’s happening in the game.”

Joel is constantly changing the tide of this war; he is dictating the game’s difficulty through his actions. And through this, he is making sure this game stays in people’s minds for a very long time. One can even say he is a Dungeon master of a very large-scale Dungeons and Dragons campaign.

This could even mean Helldivers 2 can go on for a very long time

Joel’s influence on the game’s story also means that this game can continue for a very long time. Fans can expect new twists and turns at all times, and the developers could even consider adding some more minds to this position who could come up with some more complicated decisions.

Not that this idea is something unheard of. It’s just that this kind of thing is rarely seen in a live service title, as the commitment it needs is just out of this world. Let’s hope Joel is getting paid well enough for his efforts.
