“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” delves into the world beyond the blockbuster films, exploring the operations of the team through small screens. Fans were surprised about how well the first season of the series turned out to be and have been waiting for a second season ever since. Unfortunately, they might have to wait a bit more considering the recent comments made by one of the series’ major actors.

Rising star Anna Sawai plays a pivotal role in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters as Cate Randa. Cate, a Japanese American schoolteacher, stumbles upon a life-altering secret: her missing father has another family in Japan. This discovery throws her into the complex world of Monarch and the very real dangers posed by Titans.

Sawai played one of the most prominent roles in the series. Thus, if there is a season two, she would surely have been aware of its progress. However, from her recent interview with the AV Club, it seems like Sawai does not have much idea on whether or not the series will make its return to the Monsterverse.

“Do you know if Shōgun or Monarch will return for a second season?”

“Shōgun is supposed to be a limited series, but I don’t know; I don’t have the answers to that. Who knows? I’ve been asking the same question for Monarch as well—and again, I don’t have an answer.” – Anna Sawai replied

The first season of Monarch aired in November 2023 and thus it might be very early for the actors and producers to discuss a second season at this moment. Given the critical praise for the first season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the creators renewed it for another season.

Further, the fans have been asking for a second season ever since the first ended. This anticipation is further fueled by the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which was released on March 29, 2024, in the United States.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters takes place after the world is rocked by the revelation that monstrous Titans exist in Godzilla (2014). The series follows the journey of siblings Cate Randa and Kentaro as they uncover a shocking connection of their missing father to the secretive organization known as Monarch. This discovery throws them headfirst into a thrilling adventure.

Cate, a Japanese American schoolteacher, is forced to confront a reality far beyond her wildest dreams. Alongside Kentaro, she delves deep into their family history, a quest that becomes intricately linked to Monarch’s operations. As they navigate this new world, they encounter the awe-inspiring Titans and the ever-present threat they pose.

MonsterVerse is known for its larger-than-life kaiju showdowns. The series, however, explores the human element within the MonsterVerse, showcasing the struggles and determination of those forced to live alongside these legendary creatures. The first season of the series can be streamed on Apple TV.
