After slapping Chris Rock across the face on live television, Will Smith came home to find his nine-year-old nephew watching television. According to the actor, his nephew, Dom, stayed up late to watch his uncle get a potential Oscar win but saw Will Smith slapping Chris Rock in front of the whole world.

While talking about the whole incident, Smith already had tears in his eyes when he recalled the Oscar slap. Stating that the incident was a result of his rage bottled up inside him all these years, the Men in Black actor stated that he understood the pain of the people and felt really guilty about it. The actor further stated that it hurt the actor even more when he had to explain to his nine-year-old nephew why he had to slap Chris Rock!

“I understand how shocking that was for people, on that stage. I was gone, dude. That was a rage that had been bottled for a really long time. But I understand the pain. My nephew Dom is nine, and he’s the sweetest little boy. We came home and he had stayed up to see his Uncle Will. And we’re sitting in my kitchen and he’s on my lap, and he’s holding the Oscar and he’s just like ‘Why did you hit that man, Uncle Will?’ Damnit.”

Following the Oscar slap incident, Will Smith’s career shattered like a piece of fragile glass as the actor tried desperately to revive his career. The actor did star in the 2022 movie titled Emancipation but his co-stars and crew had to suffer the consequences of Smith’s actions!

After the infamous slap, with Smith’s career in pieces, the Bad Boys actor had hoped that a good movie might tone down the hatred against him. Starring in the 2022 movie Emancipation, Will Smith knew that the film might not succeed but had hoped that people would not let the other cast and crew members suffer because of Smith’s actions.

“I would just hope that these spectacular artists that have come together on this project, I would hope that they would no be penalized for a few horrific moments of indiscretion on my part.”

Unfortunately, the movie was review bombed upon its release as it went on to earn an average rating of 6.2/10 on IMDB and a low of 45% on Rotten Tomatoes. The actor is currently attached to the upcoming movie Bad Boys 4 and fans can only hope that the hatred against Will Smith would have been lessened over time.
