Recently, a glimpse of the new Daily Planet set was shared, offering a tempting glimpse into Gunn and Peter Safran’s expansive plans. Despite not catching sight of the actors, speculation abounds, and yes, even some critique from eagle-eyed fans about costume design, Kent farm aesthetics, and now the Daily Planet’s representation.

First Glimpse of the Daily Planet Redesign in Upcoming Superman Flick

Fans of the DC Universe have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of James Gunn’s take on Superman, with David Corenswet set to take on the iconic role. However, it seems that not everyone is delighted with the latest details to emerge from the set of the upcoming film.

The Daily Planet, the iconic newspaper where Clark Kent works as a reporter, has been revealed in photos from the upcoming reboot, which is said to finish filming in July, so production is nearing completion. Along with a few teasers for the DC Universe’s take on The Daily Planet in the flick, @JeremyJLop recently posted a video of the Superman set.

No Superman cast members had been spotted as of the publication of this story, but they may have been filming their scenes inside the structure used for The Daily Planet’s interior shots. This may have given fans the impression that the film looks “so lifeless”.

This wasn’t the only thing some fans took issue with. Another set photo that seems to feature the Kent Family Farm was previously shared by Gunn on his personal Threads account. The image was also not immune to critical commentary from onlookers, though.

While many fans were tickled pink to see the iconic building brought to life in Gunn’s DC Universe, some were quick to criticize the new Daily Planet logo, as well as the earlier reveal of Superman’s suit and Kent Family Farm.

James Gunn’s Film Faces Criticism Amidst New Detail of Superman Revelation

Casting for Superman (formerly known as Superman: Legacy) has been ongoing since it was first revealed that David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan would be playing Clark Kent and Lois Lane in June 2023, almost a year ago. Mikaela Hoover and Christopher MacDonald, who will play Cat Grant and Ron Troupe, respectively, formally joined the cast less than a week ago (see THR).

It was also confirmed a few days earlier that Beck Bennett had joined Gunn’s rapidly growing Superman flick. The former’s precise role in the story is yet to be revealed, but The Hollywood Reporter has shared that he will be a reporter for The Daily Planet.

Gunn’s massive social media following is largely due to his eagerness to answer fan questions about anything DC-related, dispel rumors, and provide updates on the status of filming. Regardless, it’s not uncommon for fans to have strong opinions when it comes to beloved characters and locations from comic book lore, and the design of the Daily Planet logo is no exception.

Some fans took to social media to express their disappointment with the new logo, feeling that it didn’t live up to their expectations or the legacy of the iconic newspaper

As with any adaptation of beloved characters and settings, isn’t it inevitable that there will be some fans who are critical of certain details?

However, it’s important to remember that the final product is not yet complete, and it’s best to reserve judgment until the film is released and fans can see the full scope of Gunn’s vision for Superman and The Daily Planet in his DC Universe.

Superman will fly on the big screen on July 11, 2025.
