Journalist and talk show host Megyn Kelly is a divisive figure known for her controversial opinions on several topics. Kelly, who formerly worked at Fox News for over a decade, has been in the news recently for all the wrong reasons, particularly her comments about actress Erin Moriarty. However, in the past, Kelly got into a similar controversy with actress Charlize Theron.
Theron played a fictionalized version of Kelly in the 2019 drama film Bombshell. However, this did not stop Kelly from firing at Theron after the actress came out in support of drag queens and drag shows. On the other hand, Kelly blasted Theron for supporting the drag community without holding back. Here is what happened between Megyn Kelly and her on-screen counterpart that caused all sorts of negativity for Theron.
Megyn Kelly Called Out Charlize Theron After Bombshell Role
In 2019, actress Charlize Theron starred in the drama film Bombshell, which explores the sexual assault allegations against former FOX News CEO Roger Ailes. In the film, Theron plays a fictionalized version of Megyn Kelly. Despite watching the film, Kelly reportedly refused to comment on Theron’s performance.
In May 2023, Theron defended drag shows for children during a telethon. However, Theron’s comments did not sit right with Kelly who came out at the actress all guns blazing. Theron supported the drag community with the following words:
“We love you queens. We’re in your corner and we’ve got you, and I will f*** anybody up who’s trying to f*** with anything with you guys.”
In response, Kelly issued an open challenge of sorts as she opposed Theron’s sentiments on the topic. She criticized the actress for promoting the drug culture with the following words:
“Okay, so why doesn’t Charlize Theron come and f–k me up? Because I’m 100% against her on this.”
Kelly discussed Theron’s comments on her podcast The Megyn Kelly Show, where she highlighted the problems with drag shows that are performed in front of children. She stated:
“But there are drag queen shows out there right now that are deeply disturbing and they’re happening in front of young children.”
Kelly pointed out that performing drag queen shows, which feature sexualization and sexual references, in front of children promotes a sort of sexual behavior in young minds. Therefore, she was against such shows being performed in front of children.
Irrespective of the point Kelly was trying to make, the unabashed nature of her words aimed at Theron sparked some criticism. However, despite the nightmarish reaction from Kelly, Theron did not respond to the journalist’s comments.
Megyn Kelly Also Got Into a Controversy For Comments About Erin Moriarty
Kelly did not stop after humiliating Charlize Theron as she has also spoken harsh words and started controversies involving other actresses. Her most recent controversy involves actress Erin Moriarty who is known for her work in Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys.
On an episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, Kelly used Moriarty as an example of the social illness that is plastic surgery. She criticized Moriarty for undergoing clinical procedures for altering the appearance of her lips and nose. However, Moriarty hit back against Kelly through an Instagram post.
Moriarty blasted Kelly for not doing her due diligence before running the story about her supposed plastic surgery. Moriarty wrote the following on Instagram:
“Megyn used a photo taken ‘a year ago’ according to her, that had in actuality been taken about a decade ago before I was of LEGAL DRINKING AGE (I’m about to turn 30) as an example (maybe do some research that would take 30 seconds).”
In the same post, Moriarty also denied rumors of undergoing plastic surgery. She criticized Kelly for her comments, which were nothing short of harassment. Moriarty reportedly also deactivated her social media profiles because of the hate she received after being accused of plastic surgery. Similarly, Kelly has also bashed popular figures such as Kim Kardashian and Meghan Markle.
