Shooters like Helldivers 2 are inevitably going to start a war in their fandoms over the best loadout. While some may prefer the flamethrower, others feel the railgun is the way to go. The most common form of this bickering is to argue based on the in-game stats of guns.
This is a tale as old as gaming, but it’s not often the CEO of the game studio chimes in. Johan Pilestedt, Arrowhead Games CEO, shared that despite people going back and forth regarding the guns in Helldivers 2, they didn’t have the complete picture.
Helldivers 2 CEO Shares Extra Stats Regarding In-Game Weapons
Pilestedt began the conversation regarding weapon stats on X. His tweet painted a much larger picture, as he took a light jab at people comparing guns based on the four available stats when there were truly 50 planned stats that could be compared. He went on to state that the numbers are merely a guideline and, ultimately, gamers should just pick the gun they like the most.
This was an earlier version of it. It had a second page that showed the actual ammo stats (as the ammunition is what defines most of the weapon stats). pic.twitter.com/P3lzGkXHy9

His follow-up tweet even showed an early version of the gun stats, mentioning there was an entire second page with even more numbers. This second page was dedicated to the actual ammo stats, and we can see fields such as fire modes, reload times, and muzzle velocity. Besides the values, there is also a little diagram showing the recoil trajectory.
These kinds of stats are not offered by other games and could be super useful when thinking of trying a new gun. The recoil movement and reload times are especially useful, as they are directly linked to effective handling. Understanding how much the weapon will jump over time can enable the player to line up shots in a more effective manner.
There’s no mention as to why these stats were not included in the base game. Many people in the replies section expressed their liking for such a system and want a more detailed stats page in Helldivers 2. In fact, one even commented on a stat for how comfy a gun is to hold, and Pilestedt replied that ergonomics was an actual stat that affected ADS time.
The Best Gun is the Gun that Feels the Best For You
It’s good to see the CEO of a gaming company settle a debate rather than stoking it further for engagement. At the end of the day, players will have the most fun by choosing guns that suit their playstyle.
You may be offered better weapons, but you can always say no and stick with your trusty flamethrower to torch some bugs like the madlad this Helldivers 2 player encountered.
However, it would be good to see the additional gun stat screens added to the game in a future patch. It may encourage some players to try out new guns and find a new favorite by stepping out of their comfort zone with a well-thought-out strategy on how to best use a new weapon.
